-6C this morning. Absolutely beautiful. High of 3C this afternoon. If winter were also eight to ten degrees above normal it might be my favorite time of the year. Skating. Sledding. Snowball fights. Okay, there's no snow this year for the second two options much.

Waiting to be hit by 2 storm lines today:

1. First round = thunderstorms, gusts of 40 mph or higher, hail.

2. Second round = tornadoes, straight line winds.

Yesterday it was overcast and rained lightly all day.

Today it was so overcast that it was dark all day and it has been raining heavily on and off all day ... with thunder in the background. There are much worse storms just south of us, apparently, and they are really messing up the digital television reception.

Checking in from those worse storms south of you ....

We had a major squall line with severe thunderstorm super cells roar through today around 4:00. The super cells contained rotating air, and numerous tornadoes were spawned, not to mention straight line winds over 70 mph. Schools were put on lock down, and roads were deserted.

I was at work - when the storm hit, it turned pitch dark, then rained so heavily you couldn't see out of a window -- and the rain was swirling in a circular motion. We were quite apprehensive about this rotation.

Fortunately it roared by, leaving minor flooding and lots of downed trees & branches. Fortunately our power stayed on.

Whew!

That may be it. It's just reaching us now, and we have a rare (for us) Tornado Watch from now until 11:00.

Cloudy. Snow lying in places where the sun hasn't attacked. Wind turbines aren't moving.
