It's 20F here at the moment...12 degrees cooler than Alaska where my son is. It is raining there though....

Predicting a high in the mid 30's for tomorrow Thanksgiving Day....

It's 14F out there right now!!!

Following up on my appliance problems.... the Stereo is okay....some weird thing with the volume control (probably just dirty) - it's working fine now. Replaced the Microwave with this ($40):

Can you believe that - $40 so cheap!

The last one (same size) lasted almost 20 years....bet this one doesn't....

New batteries in the indoor/outdoor temp-clock -- it's working now.

About to pull the turkey out of the fridge and let it fully thaw for the cooking later.

DAMNIT!!! The only thing more annoying than background music or audio on websites are the damn video insert that are popping up everywhere now and unless you block them totally you can't stop the stupid things displaying friggin' disgusting commercials!

You know what else pisses me off, the single-button apple approach. I hate that single button on my work-provided iPhone... push, push, push, what a PITA! Twelve levels of menus and nobody home!

What app are you using that it's taking that many?! Normally it's press that button to unlock it, then tap on the screen...

But yeah when I read email or get text messages from my friendly computers

I have to press, press, press to get back to the main screen. On my DroidX there is a "home" button as well as a "back" button. I can go directly to where I want.

It's that whole "one mouse button" is simpler hold-over from the original Apple Mac. It's really not simplier all it does is reduce options.

Not really a rant, but I just got (heard the thump on the driveway) the 30 pound Thanksgiving paper delivered - with all the Black Friday Ads -- 20 pounds directly to the trash and 10 pounds to read while the bird is cooking.

Hmm.... paper has an energy density of around 10–15 MJ/kg, so that 20lbs of waste paper would give off about 100MJ of energy when burned. 3.6MJ is 1kWh, so 100M is over 25 kWh, or 5kW for 5 hours.

That's more than enough to cook your turkey while you read the rest of the paper!

I must admit to thinking I must have made a terrible error in the above calculations. OK, so I'm assuming perfect conversion of the heat from burning to heat for cooking, but even so....

Can anyone show me where I've gone wrong, as I just can't see it.
