It was probably people doing stuff like this which finally got the message through to them to shut this down. I mean geez. Did the guy even THINK?

Kind of bizarre that they STILL haven't gotten around to sending out those cancellations yet. I mean its only been 1 business day, but its been three REAL days. More than enough time to do a database search to find all of us and write a mass email.

Yup, I haven't received an e-mail either. I thought it was strange that it would take so long to send 'em out. The customer service rep said there were "so many." Geez, it's e-mail. God knows how they run their business. When you call, they say they'll try to get back to you in 24 hours if you e-mail. Seems slow to me.

We appreciate your Sony Reader order and we apologize for the inconvenience we caused. As our way of showing our appreciation for your patience and loyalty, we will be mailing you a $25 Borders Gift Card, which you may use on Borders.com or in our stores. Please allow 7-10 business days for delivery of your Borders Gift Card.

Thanks again for shopping with Borders. We look forward to your next visit to our stores or Borders.com.

Sincerely,

The Borders.com Team

Okay. I can deal. I mean, hey, I'd rather have the Reader, but a $25 card is nothing to sneeze at.

I bet the guy who got 20 only got ONE $25 card though. Aww. I mean this is clearly laid out as a single email for however many order numbers you have. Too bad, eBay guy...

Now, now. Don't be bashing eBay sellers. Everybody has to make a buck to earn a living. I'm an eBay seller and thought about doing the same thing, although not 20 of them but maybe 2 of each color. I just didn't want to put out the $400 for them.

You gotta do what you gotta do and as long as it doesn't involve stealing or killing or hurting someone, what the heck. I see mistakes at stores a lot. If I know it's something that'll sell. I'm buying it to resell. Why not? They get my money and I get a few dollars more for my pocket and somebody gets a decent product.

I don't think they cancelled them or will be cancelling them because of one person buying 20. It's the lump sum total of all the purchases and how much they'd lose because of it. If only a few people bought before they caught the error they'd probably take their lumps but if 1000's were sold, no way they'd eat that loss.

Just got the same email. Frankly it's nice of them to give the gift cards, I wouldn't have held anything against them if they'd just canceled my order and given nothing.

I just got mine, too. Maybe they had to run the gift card offer through execs, so that's what took so long. I wasn't expecting a gift card. Geez, that's gotta cost 'em with so many ordered.

What pisses me off is this line on their customer service page:

7. The last step to placing your order is confirming the information contained on the Order Summary page. You may edit the shipping and payment information or cancel the order. Click on "Order Now" to place the order. Please note that once an order is placed Borders is unable to cancel or modify it in any way.

Talked to the CSR people, and she says "we normally don't have access to cancel orders, but we made a special request through the supplier to get them canceled."

Now to see how long it will take them to give me my money back.

The rep I spoke with said my credit card wouldn't be charged. That was in response to my asking her whether there was anything I needed to follow up on.

From their "pricing policy"

Borders reserves the right to revoke any offer, sale, promotion or price, whether or not an order has been acknowledged via email, for any reason, including without limitation, for purposes of correcting a pricing error.

And, yeah, I got my notice, too.
