After using my Kobo Reader for a few days, one thing I'm missing is the ability to see how much of a book I've read. I'm a chronic page counter, and I like to know how far I've progressed through a book!

I know the Kobo Reader displays my progress though a chapter, but what I want to know is how far through a book I am. I wouldn't care if it was a page count (page 212 of 423) or a percentage (46% read), but a page count is probably more useful.

Not sure if this has been asked, most of the other posts seem to be more concerned on how to delete the I'm reading page.

But basically, MORE DETAILS in the I'm reading page! Only the top one shows the author name. Titles themselves DO NOT give enough information.

Tags for series. Or at least sort series numerically somehow when you sort by author. How do i know which is the first out of The Way of Shadows, Shadows Edge, Beyond the Shadows?? And that's and easy series, imagine trying to remember the order in Terry Pratchett's series.

I spoke with someone from Kobo today and she said that they're planning their first update through the desktop app this weekend.

That's good to hear, hopefully she wasn't just trying to get you off the phone.

Missing illustrations in book purchased from Kobo

I'm not sure if this is a problem with the firmware on the Kobo, or just carelessness on the part of the ebook publisher, but I recently purchased a book from the Kobo web site, "The Emotion Machine" by Marvin Minsky. Apart from some minor formatting problems which I can live with (section headings are a little garbled, with words run together or spaces in the middle of words), all the illustrations seem to be missing.

As far as I know, none of the 100 books that are pre-installed have illustrations, but I've loaded some books which I converted myself from PDF to ePub format, and the illustrations were loaded properly. So I think the fault is with the publisher, rather than the firmware on the Kobo. Has anyone else noticed missing illustrations in any books purchased from Kobo?

I can understand that they may have rushed a lot of books into electronic format to promote sales, but hopefully the illustrations and other problems will be fixed in future "editions" and I can download another version without having to purchase it again.

This is great news!

However, I wonder about the wisdom of releasing a firmware update over a long weekend where tech support will be limited (or completely unavailable.)

I certainly hope all goes well and, I am looking forward to the updates. But, I am worried by some 'problem' firmware updates that I have had in the past with Linksys routers, and MP3 players.

I think I will keep my Kobo safely disconnected until I read about the experiences of others here on the forums.

One addition I would like to see..

The first time you install the desktop App, I would like the app to query the owner their personal information (Name, address etc...) and put it on the Kobo itself. Then, this information can be displayed through the menu or as the unit powers up.

The reason for this is to allow me to convince someone that the device that I left on the restaurant/pub table is really mine and not something I just saw someone leave behind.

Cheers!!

I agree, it would be nice to be able to prove ownership of your own Kobo. Is there a serial number on the Kobo? I haven't been able to find it if there is. I did find the MAC address, but not sure if every MAC address is unique so it could be used like a serial number.

Anyone find a serial number and where do you find it?

I think I noticed a S/N sticker on the internal hardware pictures someone posted. But then again, that might the serial of that particuliar part, and not the Kobo unit itself.

I've got an Aus (Borders) Kobo, and mine says in one of the settings screens that it is registered to the email address I used to create my Borders account.

I would also like a way to categorize books on the Kobo. For example, I have a large collection of short stories that I would like to keep separate from my novels.

The Canadian version also has your email address as well. Does this get erased when you reset the machine (hole on back or from menu)? If it does it wouldn't work very well to prove ownership.

The reset button does not remove it; however, the Reset to Factory defaults menu selection does remove the eMail address.

I'm pretty sure that this feature is very high on their priority list. Or at least I remember reading a post here from a Kobo dude that said so.

Does anyone know if there was an upgrade over the weekend? According to the info in "Settings", I'm still on revision 58, dated March 29, 2010.
