Televised SF is such a wide-ranging and varied thing that it's easy to love one show and hate a similar show... and you never know what will work for you. I know people who salivated over Blake's 7, and it never did a thing for me. OTOH, I love UFO, and there are plenty of people who pan it loudly and long.

Same goes for newer US shows, like the Star Trek collection, Stargate (same notation), Babylon 5, Farscape, Eureka and Warehouse 13... many love one and hate another, for very personal and individual reasons.

I hated the earliest Dr. Who I saw (probably a Pertwee season)... mainly because they were made so cheaply, that even well-written stories were horribly overshadowed by plastic aliens, paper-mache sets, bad video shots, etc. Well, okay, the ruffled shirt didn't help...

When I saw my first Eccleston Who, I was immediately calmed by the improved effects... sure, not perfect, but much less distracting, allowing me to focus on the actors and storyline.

But you know, SF just has certain conventions that you have to buy into, or it just doesn't work for you. Once you bought into Dr. Who's conventions, you could just it back and watch the show.

Yep, that was a good show.

Actual name was "Einstein and Eddington" though.

Bit of trivia - the actor playing Einstein, Andy Serkis, was Gollum in the 'Lord of the Rings' films.

When I first read this skimming through posts, I thought this read "Eccleston and Einstein" and I'm thinking to myself "Why is this a must for David Tenant fans?"

The previews look good. I would love to see this, but is it available in the US?

Thanks KK. Don't get HBO, and it doesn't look like it's available to purchase, but maybe I missed it. I'd like to see it, but probably wouldn't purchase it anyway.

I LOVE THE NEW DOCTOR!!!!!

And I love the brighter show, less dark and menacing.
