Sabredog, Dress it up as you will, Theft is illegal and wrong, I thought this was about reading books, not stealing ?

I'm not trying to hijack the thread, i just don't think theft solves our problem, thats all !

Surely if we advocate theft, we are WORSE than the money grabbing publishers !

ok i guess I have said my share, and i never intended to offend you or anyone else.

I am hoping as the release date draws near that other ebook stores offer it for sale and previously successful workarounds allow me to pay for and acquire the book.

If that proves impossible then I have to explore other options. Options I really want to avoid.

I have long held the view that geographical restrictions would prove more insidious than DRM. I firmly believe that view is correct.
But, there are two other options you could consider.

1. Don't buy the book, forget about it.
2. Try to buy the old fashioned paperback/hardcover.

I've had a few days to think about this issue and cool down my anger and frustration and I've come to the conclusion that getting the ebook I want is not worth becoming a criminal for.

I'm just going to buy ebooks when I can and where I can, and if not buy the paperback. I will also keep complaining, maybe they will listen someday. Patience is a virtue, and this situations is probable going to make me very virtuous.

Yes I know and I am looking down the dead tree path currently. I simply have no more room for physical books here. My wife and I are voracious readers

Wish I could forget about it, but the book is the final book in a six part series, so that is not going to happen easily

As I said earlier. Diesel is only one option. Plenty of other stores who have workarounds that do and should work!

Meanwhile...more power to Baen!

OK, no harm done, so far. But dress it up as YOU will, you are still trying to hijack this thread! You still continue with the same theme!
A poster of this thread has asked for participants to keep it on topic. According to the rules of this forum, it must be honored.
Please go and check out the posting rules and regulations.
If you still need to pick an argument with someone about piracy, please go to the RELEVANT threads. There are many, and there you can argue to your hearts content. You can even go to the Rant thread and complain if you want... Thanks.
Peace...

Agreed completely!

If one should obtain illegal works it would be good to at least send money to the author.

You see, geo restrictions, more than even DRM will turn readers to obtaining "free" copies of ebooks simply because they have no other choice.

Others who have done so have obtained an authors email address and organised to send a payment for the book direct.

And are you giving YOURSELF Karma? Is that honest? And here you come and attack people and accuse them of piracy and stealing. What a joke!
Can we stay on topic please.

I bought myself a gift certificate at BoB today, changed my country of residence to US and filled in a fictitious US billing address and bought an ebook restricted to the US with the certificate. It's a bit of a work around but easier/safer than masking your IP I think.

It's unfortunate so many of these threads devolve into piracy arguments. I can't say I'm completely innocent by any means, and I think it is important for all to express their thoughts on the matter. I'm trying really hard to to not get involved in arguments about it but to just state my opinion and let it go. Anyway this is off-topic too so will just re-iterate that I HATE GEO-RESTRICTIONS! We must get to things likes being able to all have equal access to products world-wide.

Calm down. For the record, I'm not Kevin2960. I will tell you that he does make a valid point about theft, even thought that is not the point of this thread, it can't hurt to have it mentioned.

Well done. Diesel seem to handle that differently but all the same a nice workaround to know.

I don't see those two options as real options. That way you will not make a point. You will only impress the fact that ebooks apparently aren't that important to you. And publishers will be vindicated: see, nobody wants to buy our books (we all know they are very short-sighted and only see what they want to see...)

I simply refuse to buy a paper book because the publisher made it restricted to another country. It makes it look like the publisher won. Especially if I have to order that book from the States in the first place.

My option would be:

3. Buy the book any way you can.

Civil disobedience I think is the only way to impress the fact that we are not amused with the geographic restrictions, but that we do love ebooks.
