That's definitely something that will be a consideration for me with any future purchase, I guess the main thing holding me back is that ideally i'd like both comics and books on the same device and I use computer screens too much with work to read books on one as well I think.

It's just a shame they didn't include either a usb port or a memory card slot rather than making them use a separate adaptor, you can see it being the next step up from digital picture frames and being able to view new pics more easily would have rounded that out pretty well.

PRS screen to "glare-y," interface too bulky (can't change status of book once it's on the device to either "save," (or whatever other level I want to label it), and the lack of backlight was the clincher.

I had increasing headaches and eyestrain (dry eyes, etc...) with the eReader (I tend to read mostly at night or in dark places as I'm waiting for trains/planes/meetings/movies, etc...). The tiny little book light just doesn't cut it and it's one more thing to lug around. The built-into-the-cover light doesn't cover the whole page without additional glare.

Yup. I give up.

I'll be selling my ereader to offset costs as well. My biggest concern is being able to read my legally purchased ePub files on the iPad. My solution (theoretical at this point, of course) is to install the Sony "Reader Library" onto my iPad and read as if I'm on my computer (which I will be, in mini-me form - computer being a MBP).

So...yup. Can't wait.

Pol
sorry to hear about this.

we love our prs-600 and continuously fight over who gets to read tonight.

even though we have an ipad reserved, we are still looking at possibly getting another ereader.

the ipad will mainly be used for graphic novels and comics, as the backlight eyestrain headaches are too common for novel reading for us.

I was not considering an iPad because I had my heart set on a plastic logic Que, but after seeing and using one at my local Best Buy, guess what I now have. Sorry Plastic Logic but I couldn't wait.

While we're at it, let some pictures do the talking:

Manga in comiczeal

Comics in comic reader mobi

Een pagina uit iBooks

Twee PDF-magazines op goodreader

En... een travelguide PDF op goodreader

Well, how sad it may sound, this covers 70% of my interests.

...hmmm it seems photobucket now resize the images with some fuzzy filter... hafta find another host to upload pics to then...

I prefer the cozy "sits together in couch, shoulder to shoulder, browsing through photo-album"-situation.

thanks for the screens, but I think the spiderman one is not readable at full screen, based on your screenshot. Do you really need to zoom in a bit at those comics? That would be a really shame because that's what I hate about those 5" screens.

I find comics to be easily readable in portrait, and in most cases readable in two-page landscape, although sometimes you have to zoom in there, if there is small text.

Be aware that those screenshots are compressed and resized to 800x600 and you're reading it off a normal screen I presume. "in real life" the pictures will be shown on 1024x800 and on an IPS screen. That does makes a difference.

ah of course, that's true. Reading it in full resolution shouldn't be a problem

Sometimes when comics are scanned from paper, especially old ones, you can see the page on the other side bleeding through...

I'm an iPad fan and I don't even own one!
I can't help but be impressed by it every time I play with one in the stores.

I've fuddled around with Windows tablets, Android, WinCe and Linux devices, but so far the iPad seems to be the only one to get it right.

I'm waiting for revision one or two and (unless something it's equal comes along) I'll probably bite the bullet and get one.

Before purchasing/using my iPad, I thought the same thing. I, too, spend each work day staring at LCD screens... and figured an iPad for reading would be LCD-overload. When reading on the iPad, however, I turn the screen brightness down low and read for hours without a problem.
