Maybe it is UPS that have sorted orders by country, and sent the first batch to Germany. Then of course when they get to the next batch bound for other countries, they run in to customs trouble. Possibly incorrect paperwork etc.

Once the problem has been resolved it is too late to ship the rest today.

That doesn't make sense, as Ali is based in Germany too.

The problem accord to that last email was apparently due to customs seising the iLiad units when they came into the country. As such iRex diddn't have them to give to UPS.

Just received the same respose as Ali (albeit with an extra paragraph about communities).

My response:

Quote:
> We understand your concern however the order numbers are not necessarily
> handled in chronicle order.

So what you are saying is that the people that ordered _AND PAID_ first
will not, be those that receive their orders first.

This is utterly not acceptable and is a _terrible_ way of doing business.

> We do try to monitor the several communities of iLiad enthusiasts and we
> are very interested in what is going on in these communities, and
> mobileread.com is not exception to this. So we are aware of the feelings
> there are on these forums and we are doing everything we can to solve
> this shipping issue.

If you are monitoring them, then why not make your presence known?

I'm sorry but this is just the latest in a long line of feeble excuses.

I _require_ a written apology for this travesty.

@Riocaz

We do not know how many units they may have had from an earlier shipment. Possibly the same shipment that Henrycat received his unit from. Maybe they only had say 300 units initially sent. The new batch is then the one that arrived the other day, and had not been cleared by customs. I aggree that UPS would not have to get the unit from Irex, they would pick them up directly from the customs house (They even act as a customs house themselves). The lack of chronology in the order numbers could still be something UPS had to do with. They would typically group orders by destination instead of by order number in order to opimize their handling of the shipments.

This is just a theory to stop me from going insane

As a buyer of ebooks from Toshiba and Sony, I can tell that customs have problems to work out the scripts on these languages, and that one week is usual until you phone customs again and then they move the box. A japanese export company uses old boxes so the custom agent things "My god, how many years has this box being stopped at the custom, lets move it!".

Frankly I don't care.

The fact of the matter is that I placed my order before any of those, who have thus-far reported receiving a shipping notice. As such my order should have been filled before them.

Ali, who is also based in Germany, hasn't received one. So the idea that it's based on destination seems to be wrong.

This is a farce!

Well, have you even considered, that with the problems at hand, they handpicked a few customers who should receive their devices asap, because iRex sees a lot of sales potential there? That would make sense to me and explain the unchronological order of shipments. But then again, it might not be in their hands at all.

P.S.: Anyone received a tracking number yet? If not, dont think anything is shpped yet. Just my personal pessimism speaking.

Again that makes no difference in the slightest.

I placed an order, I paid my money. Therefore I have a reasonable right to expect that if someone else placed an order later on mine will be dealt with first.

In the same way I would expect that Onceways (who ordered before me) should have his order shipped before mine.

And the UPS point you made is very good, and a very worrying. Until the tracking numbers are received then you are probably right.

you do have a reasonable right, as all of us. On the other hand, if the other iLiads ship tomorrow, we shouldnt complain about that. (Although i would like to know the reason, WHY higher order numbers get handled first.)

It will not help us to get angry anyway, so i will just calm down and move to the meditation thread. ... hmm ... maybe to the ranting thread .... cant decide.

I received a complete explanation of the Process from iRex. I know what the problems were and where they were. Unfortunately I was asked not to disclose this information. I have asked permission to do so, but so far have not received a reply.

All I can do now is hint. Some of the elements above are correct. The customs issue too. The fact that this whole issue appeared however is simply down to a very stupid little mistake somebody made along the line. Sometimes small changes can ruin everything.
I hope I'll be able to tell you more later on.

About the chronology of orders...so far 10 orders have been handpicked and sent manually. These devices were already in Dueren and could be sent. I know why I received one, but can't say how the others were selected.

All problems (known so far) are resolved or being resolved and shipping should really start on thursday.

As said previously Commander, you have done more than most for this community. So I don't begrudge that you have been given special treatment.

But the way this has been handled is attrocious.

That said, if I receive my iliad by Monday I won't be too upset.

I still expect a written apology from iRex though. Their actions have been inexcusable.

--edit--

Wait... Thursday? They said tomorrow in their last email.
