Thanks for the further info SolRaven. It's on my to-read list. Just trying to determine how close to the top.

Okay so I downloaded the sample from Amazon and I have to quote this, the part that grabbed my attention, gave me a chuckle:

....It's bridge club day. Every fourth Wednesday a month. A course I got everthing ready to go.....She already got the blue dress on I ironed this morning, the one with the sixty-five pleats on the waist, so tiny I got to squint through my glasses to iron. I don't hate much in life, but me an that dress is not on good terms.

SolRaven, I like the way you said that "a great book really has no boundaries."

That's worth repeating, in color and in large type.

Very true guys. I didn't meant to raise a controversy with my "girly" remark but certainly some books are written with a specific audience in mind. In fact, I thought about it for a long while before using that term and posting that question/thought. I'm far from a "manly-man" action/adventure type reader and read most anything. The main thing I'm looking for is a great book, a great story, well told that explores and exposes the human condition.

As I've now read (as above) the sample from Amazon I believe this is one of those books. In fact, based on what I've read, the reviews on Amazon and the reviews from you guys here, I'm expecting this book to receive some great acclaim and possibly awards. (Of course I've been wrong before..) It didn't take much more reading of the sample than to get that point that gave me a giggle to purchase the book.

I've since read the afterword "Too Little Too Late" I'm now totally engrossed in the novel and the story.

Thanks again! I'm really really looking forward to this one.

Nothing's wrong with controversy, in my opinion.

Actually, this thread is one of the two or three most CIVIL and COURTEOUS threads that I've started.

An excellent job from all contributors

Had I know it was going to be in such large colorful print I would've edited, so I'll do that now.

"A great book has no boundaries."

Simple.

I think that's normal and a good reaction. We wouldn't have gone on and convinced you if you didn't express doubt. The best way to prove something is worth reading is to try and prove that it isn't.

I have only purchased one book for my reader. The rest were freebies. Just have a hard time paying more than what I know I can find at the used book store. Can't think of a single book I have wanted to read that I could not get cheaper in a used paperback.

But there are tons I would LIKE to buy if it weren't for that.

Just bought "Midnight Fugue" - latest Dalziel & Pascoe entry by Reginald Hill - finally dropped to $9.99 - focused on Andy trying to return to work after surviving the bomb blast 2 books ago. So far very good.

I just finished Duma Key by Stephen King. Very good. Would have been even better had it had about 300 pages shaved off.

Now reading Trigger City, great novel, byt no ebook.

I'm loving it, about 80 pages in (chapter 3) now. Amazon just dropped the price to $9.99 as I predicted!
