This is from engadget:

So the 300,600 and DE: definitely, the 505? I hope so. After seeing the comparison video yesterday, I think I'm going to go with a 505 rather than a 600 (which I'm kind of sad about... I was really looking forward to that)
I just did the same thing, I was torn between a pink 300 or a red 505, just hit the buy button on a red 505. $299 Canadian, 600 Aeroplan Miles and a $25 E:book gift cert. Puts in line with the 300 price.

I'm skimming, but I don't see any MobileRead coverage of this, just links to gizmodo, engadget, etc. Do we not have someone plugged into this event?

I think Dennis or someone was going to go? I don't recall whom it was.

Whomever it is I guess doesn't have live blogging/post ability perhaps.

Vizplex is the EInk film. This isn't the standard PVI 8" display (which will probably be on the iRex DR800), but rather some custom "wide-screen" size (perhaps 600x1024).

Well so far I am convinced... but not enough to trade in the 505.
I will be keeping that and asking Santa for the Daily.
I think I will like the new screen format... same page width, jut more lines to read before turning the page.

I personally never saw the need to download a book wirelessly, since I had so many on the device and leashing it to a computer once or twice a month is hardly a burden.
But if I can dowload news content on the go... then that is a no brainer for me.

Roll on December!

It looks like library compatibility is going to be the feature to wait for in the new software coming out. Now if only they'd tell us whether 505 is going to be supported.

I agree with Lemurion. The revolution here is not the hardware, but that Sony is taking a huge step toward expanding the availability of books. What are the odds that Amazon would have taken such a step? We can rent DVD's, why not ebooks? I can't remember the last time I purchased a new DVD. I just get it on Netflix and return it after I have watched it. The is the business model for which ebooks must adapt.

My biggest concern with Ebooks has been the requirement that they be purchased (which is fine) but not subject to passing on to others. I much prefer to rent an ebook or get it from my library which I can currently do for many titles.

If the library compatibility is built into the 3.0 software then I would be terribly surprised if the 505 weren't supported.

Why does the version number have so many digits? I wish companies would simpler numbering systems for their software versions.

I agree with Andy having had both a 505 & 700, I like my 700. I find that for my style of reading it is perfect. Keep in mind, I use the light, and the highlighting and the note-taking. Personally, I have had very little problem with glare, but then I read all times of the day, indoors and out, daytime and at night. Not needing wireless, I'll stick with my 700. Now, if they had come up with wireless access.......
