I'm not up with all the science regarding climate change.
I've taken the view that I'll know it's serious when population control makes its way on to the agenda.
Until then, it seems that everything else is just tinkering.

Let me phrase it differently: Whats the alternative? We do NOT know whether it will work - so lets just find out.

I just spent my annual weekend at a SF convention, and listened to two of my favorite physicists talk about the current state of fusion. Right now, they can confine the plasma, except that the hydrogen tends to collect at the surface of surrounding walls in a bubble, which bursts, sending the cooler bubble back into the plasma which quenches the fusion. It's a materials problem, not a physics problem. (sorry if I don't convey the information as well as they did....)

No, I haven't come across that. I'll look it up!

Chances are that at that distance, and given solar scatter in the atmosphere, Earth-dwellers might not even notice a difference in their shadows, or be able to see the array in the sky even when it is between them and the sun. Besides, they can always be placed in an orbit that will keep them at right angles to the Earth's angle to the Sun (which makes sense... otherwise, they'd be in darkness 50% of their time in orbit).
