That was the first thought that came to my mind and the only explanation I can think of to replace the screen.

When did you buy your 700? I get a feeling that maybe certain shipment 700s might have gotten some sort of defective screen and they know it but are not making it public. So they might be changing your screen for an anti dust one?

hmmm... so maybe it was bc it was the first batch...?
I bought mine this March and zip dust spots and I am not the most careful individual like some readers on MR...
Hopefully its just that and they are fixing it to make sure it doesn't happen again

IME Sony PDAs had a history of collecting dust and other items under the touchscreen. My 730 (Palm) picked up some, but it never got to be too bad. I'm more concerned about the non-easily user accessible battery for replacement when it eventually would need that as the PRS-700 is the best buy for me at current pricings(no Fry's in 250m of me o.w. the story would be different).

Called Sony repair depot again today. My new screen has arrived but they won't be able to work on my PRS700 until Monday, which is pretty much what I expected.

WDE. (hogging the 505 @ our place)

Called Sony repair depot again today. My new screen arrived but the technician said they had the same dust problem.

Therefore, they said they are going to give me a brand spanking new one (they had 1 in stock) to replace my PRS700.

They just have to do a bit of paperwork and I can come by the depot after 3:00 PM to pick it up.

Yeah!!!!!

This took less than 2 weeks to be resolved and my proximity to the repair depot was to my advantage. All in all, it was a positive experience dealing with Sony. Hopefully my new PRS700 will remain dust free.

So the new screen also had dust on it? I believe you mentioned that the next time you bring it in for the same type of repair that they were going to chage you since this isn't a common issue that they are aware of. Does this change their opinion?

I picked up my new PRS700.

I was just so glad to get another reader I didn't ask too many questions.

I did ask what I should do if I discovered dust spots on this new one and was told to just bring it back in to be evaluated; there was no mention of any charges.

I don't know if any options or policies have changed.

Where is the dust entering? Is it the SD slots or the stylus slot? Would a piece of tape covering the holes prevent this?

I have no idea where it's entering from. I have three dust spots. One towards the stylus corner. Another one the opposite end towards the buttons. And another somewhere in the lower middle. How is it that the iPod touch (also with touch screen) can have no dust problems but this PRS-700 does?

even if it did, you would be less likely to notice because its hard to see dust with back light one, ive seen tons of PSPs with dust in them, but the backlight always is stronger then the dust.

the side lights highlight dust though
