I think I may have to get one.

I have a couple of 'spare' Kindles that would get me 20% + $20 or $30 gift card. I can well imagine the display will be crisper & performance less sluggish than either the 10th gen Kindle or Kindle Paperwhite that I have, with USB-C, 5GHz WiFi, and the lighter weight are attractive relative to those two as well. I think it would be a 'spare' that I would actually use.

I was reading reviews on Amazon and there are about 4 in a row that say it is 'glitchy'. It's not clear what they mean, but I am guessing they must not have had any sort of eInk device previously and assume the relatively slow, and perceptible (compared to phone/tablet) screen refresh is a defect. Poor them.

I got it to take out when I go places, as I find the PW4 too large and heavy for that. I also traded in a Kindle, though UPS seems to have lost it. I traded in a recent Kids Kindle, the screen wasn't very good though my daughter didn't seem to notice. I gave her a Kobo Glo HD and kept the new basic Kindle for myself.

Waterproofing makes it harder to replace the battery too. In some cases, impossible. Even if you don't keep your reader for very long, it matters for resaleability

The eBook Reader has put up a video on YouTube comparing the new 2022 Kindle to a few other readers (one Kobo, the rest Kindles). He seems to think it compares to a Paperwhite 3 screen, which is what I guessed they would do. He still thinks the Voyage is the best screen for contrast ever. Anyhow, this is the video I've been looking for as the screen is the most important part of the reader (in my opinion).

Since it is 300ppi, doesn't that make it Carta HD?

Carta and Carta HD aren't different products, are they? I always thought the HD was just marketing to say "this screen has a lot of pixels."

Anyway, Kindle has a lot of software stuff that I just wouldn't like, but this new Kindle Basic is a great deal. Who would have ever thought that the cheapest base model Kindle would be as nice as the old Kobo Glo HD or Paperwhite 3 (aside from the 4 LEDs)?

I have zero interest in the Scribe, but the latest Paperwhite and Basic are vast improvements on Amazon's part. I'm curious to see what happens with the Goodereader-guaranteed Oasis 4.
