Did you install Qt6 first? If not, how is Calibre 6.0 working? If so, how did you get Qt6 installed? I don't see Qt6 in the mint/ubuntu repositories.

Do you have the DeDRM plugin installed and is it working? I have seen references to problems with it in this thread. In addition to this one I have the DeACSM and Hyphenate-this plugins installed and would need them all working before I could move from 5.44 here.

I actually think that for some fonts Qt is now choosing the light/medium faces rather than the regular face. Simply reselecting the font in Preferences->Look & feel where you can specify the exact face should fix it.

You dont need Qt 6, calibre comes with its own copy. All you need is a recent enough glibc and the installer will refuse to install if it detects you dont have one.

Expecting to use new software on arbitrarily old versions of linux is an insane requirement, given the idiotic compatibility policies of the linux ecosystem. If you want to stick with ancient distros, use ancient software on it. Or switch to windows, which takes compatibility more seriously, you can run calibre 6 on seven year old versions of windows 10 if you want.

Interesting. Is the Qt 6 you are providing installed such that other programs that want to use it can do so? I have another program that wants Qt 6 that I have been unable to upgrade due to Qt 6 not being available.

No, only calibre can use its private copy of Qt6.

Is there a way to change that, so that others programs could use it?

Alternatively, should I find a way to get a shared copy of Qt6 installed, would your installer continue to install and calibre continue to use the private copy?

calibre binaries use private copies of everything except a few system libraries, by design.

That hopefully should work in MacOS.
No need to download the DeDRM 10.0.2 release. Download the current code. Unzip it and run the make-release.py file. This will generate the DeDRM_tools.zip. Open that file with a zip utility and extract DeDRM_plugin.zip and Obok_plugin.zip. Install either or both using the calibre => Preferences => Plug-ins => Load plug-in from file.

Edit: My test for this procedure was done on a MacOS Monterey 12.4 virtual machine. I copied over 4 non-DRMmed epubs and used DeACSM to load 2 epubs from .ascm files.

Thanks so much Kovid! This fixed the issue of thinned fonts for me.

Hi, this procedure is needed only for MacOS or also for Windows? I have installed calibre 6 and DeDRM 10.0.2 but it seems to work fine

Thanks

The issue only seems to affect Macs. If you're not getting crashes upon adding books, I wouldn't bother. I've been using DeDRM without issue on Windows.
