I tried adding the functions in your post directly to the preference in the database. They worked.

@davidfor: just curious, can you replicate the issue by creating a new library (copying structure)? I've done this in the past for particularly difficult-to-track-down issues.

The user template functions is not working for me no matter what I do. I can create one, see it in the database, but, when I restart calibre it does not appear. This happens whether I run from source, or use the installed beta. And, it doesn't matter how I create the library. I have tried creating a new library copying my existing structure and creating a new library with the default configuration.

The attached database and JSON file come from using the installed calibre 5.99.12 by clicking on icon created when installing. I uses "Switch/create library" and created a new directory. After that, I closed calibre. Then I opened it and created a user function template using the example in the help, except that I added a couple of a's to the name to have it first. Then I closed and reopened calibre. When I looked, the function was not their. I then zipped up the database and backup file.

I have released calibre 6, since other than the template issue reported by davidfor there are no outstanding reported bugs. Thanks for all your help.

I had one minor problem after the update my font style was set to thin, changed it back to regular all good.

Hello, Im not really sure where to put this so if its wrong place im sorry.
Ive encountered problem while switching to Calibre 6.0

"this application could not be started because no qt platform plugin could be initialized"

I tried to reinstall also ive run sfc /scannow and windows didm't found anything wrong.

Try running calibre from a command prompt as

calibre-debug -g

that should hopefully give you more information.

Yes, currently im on windows 8.1 but it said it "calibre works on Windows 8 and higher" so i though it wont be a problem for now, im currently in process of saving funds on new pc. calibre 5.44 runs ok if that helps.

calibre itself runs fine on windows8, however, I think Qt 6 has issues with it, as per https://www.qt.io/blog/qt6-developme...ts-and-targets

I will update the website to note that windows 8 is not useable with calibre 6.

No need to get a new PC. Just upgrade Windows 8 to Windows 10. Problem solved.

Bug with FT Search page which removed the index.
Installed v6 updating from the last beta version and went into FT Search page. Found that some books added yesterday hadn't been indexed by clicking on the check stats button.
Then clicked the "Index books in this library to allow searching their full text". Got a message box asking if I was sure I wanted to remove the indexes. Clicked "No" but it still reset the Index books check box and set the indexed book count to 0.
Running on Windows 10 using Calibre 6 release file from Github
