Yes, I have all the variations. 4 fonts total. My basic isn't affected either, so maybe the PW are not also?

Well thanks Barty, at least you found my issue and I guess its "fixed" as long as I stay with factory loaded fonts.

I will send them an email. I'll try to put it into words what the issue is. Not easy for me to explain at times. At least not for it to make sense to somebody else. It makes sense in my head.

So others have the issue with just side loading the fonts? or is it because of using the custom font setting? Or both?

This coming new feature was described a bit more in the press release for the new basic Kindle:

It is disappointing, but not surprising, that the PC and MacOS apps are not mentioned as receiving this new feature.

I'm pretty behind on how Amazon runs their Kindle software strategy since I've been away for so long. Do they usually use some kind of trickle-down approach, add the feature first to the Kindle devices and pump it as a big deal, then quietly add it to the other platforms later?

It has varied over the years. Currently the iOS, Android, and Fire apps are the most frequently updated (usually monthly) and have features that e-ink Kindles cannot support due to hardware limitations. The iOS app lacks some store-related features due to extra costs placed on that by Apple.

Kindle firmware for models released since 2013 is updated approximately quarterly. New features are generally pretty minor.

The PC and Mac apps are updated less frequently and still lack basic features that the others have had for years, such as cloud collections.

My wife would love that feature if we could separate what I've read versus what she's read. Unfortunately, we started back before family accounts so we share the same Amazon login. Might need to talk about splitting off another account and setting up a family library to be able to use that. She wishes at times that she could tell what she has and has not read in our account.

I haven't noticed any speed increase or improvement at all in turning pages.
