Sounds to me like it is an optional accessory. Maybe Onyx can start throwing the clips in in the future. I doubt it makes much difference to the bottom number.

Got a question. Since the Max2 comes with android 6, is split screen possible? I haven't seen anything - would be nice to have reading app and note taking app open at the same time (e.g. in landscape).

If it doesn't do that yet, maybe it should be enabled.

I don't have the device with me now, but the option should be in the "Developer Options" - can you check?

Settings > Developer Options > (chapter) Drawing > Multi-window

No, unfortunately I cannot check. I am still in the decision phase to purchase. I like what I see, just not sure yet which Onyx it is going to be.

When I open the Settings, I don't see a Developer Options sublisting; there are only the following categories:

Systems
Language
Extension
Network
About

And looking through these categories, none seems to have a Developer Options sub-category.

Or did I look in the wrong place?

Side note: some people complained about the battery life; I've been keeping my own Max 2 on standby (to avoid waiting for it to boot up when I need it), and I just checked my battery: it's at 81%. I think the last time I connected it to the charger was last weekend (and I haven't been using it much since), so it doesn't look like standby mode eats up much power.

Are these commands to type in a shell interface? And if so, where do I find the shell? (sorry if these are newbie Android user questions - I have no previous Android experience)

I tried to download the update that Booxtor linked, but then when I tried to "update from local storage" the updater didn't know where to look for it (or at least, it didn't know to look in the "Download" folder where the browser left it), so I updated from the cloud - but from what I understand, it's not the same update file?

Hi,

From a shell on your device, by installing a terminal application, or from your PC and the android debug bridge : install adb on your PC, enable usb debugging on the max2, connect the max2 to your PC with usb and run adb on your PC, then request a shell ("adb shell" on linux and type the commands "am start ..."

I downloaded the update and pushed it (through adb) at the root of sdcard (that is /sdcard where you find also the PDF manual). Then local OTA update worked for me.

Unfortunately (for now), I understand that to have the "Multi-window" option listed, another operation is required (modifying file /system/build.prop ), which requires being root. Which is not the easiest thing at the moment.

Waiting for my unit which is on the way... Just regarding the battery I would be perfectly fine to charge the reader every day or every second day if it will perform well I don't want sluggish device lasting 2 weeks on one charge, that's what the Max 1 is. Ok, Max 1 is not that sluggish but my motivation to buy Max2 is to get 2-3x better performance so any random switching between large pdf's, searching etc would work as on typical smartphone.

For being root, I tried towelroot and framaroot without success.

But would it be possible that booxtor provide an already rooted image ? or an update for this ?

I am not an expert but providing a rooted image just means to add the binary su inside the image.

Booxtor, today unfortunately I found a rather serious bug
The sequence is this:

- I open a pdf in portrait mode
- I select "Rotation"
- The pdf is in landscape mode
- I select "crop page"

At this point I start reading and the touchscreen suddenly goes crazy. The menu that appears by pressing in the middle of the screen it activates automatically and disappears automatically (this happens several times).
At a certain point the touch no longer responds and you can interact only with the stylus.
In some cases, when I touched the screen several times, it stopped completely and I had to restart (it seems that the various touches have overloaded the system).

All this does not happen in portrait mode.

I hope it's not a hardware problem and I'm waiting for your answer because this bug creates a certain concern for me.

This does not happen on my device.
Maybe the PDF? That there is a problem with cropping? Did you try several pdfs (scans, typeset, etc.)?

I also could not reproduce this on my test device. Tried with different PDFs.

I suggest in case of strange behavior of your device or error messages, try to use Information feedback option from the settings ->about. Short description is usually enough. Our developers receive those reports and proper log files, so they can see what happens and figure out solutions.


@deb2016: Concerning rooting of Max2 - at the moment it is hard. I am working on it and hope to be able to provide soon either rooted firmware (developers version) or rooting tool (for geeks among us).

Thanks Booxtor. I have tried with other PDF files and in fact it does not happen.
I attach a picture of my "about" screen so you can understand what happened.
Meanwhile, I'm calmer because I understood that it depended on the PDF (I attach an excerpt).

But I needed that PDF in landscape mode to try with an orchestra...

What can lead to these strange behaviors within a PDF?
