I have a 256G card in my Max. Unfortunately, it's not enough space for my ebooks. I wouldn't mind one or even 3 more.

EDIT: That was the thing that made me love my Sony readers. Dual memory slots.

Depends what they are. The reason I bought a 256GB iPad is that I have many PDFs that are hundreds of MB in size.

Hi everyone,

several hours ago I received the Max Carta e-reader. As promised on the MAX thread a few days ago I'll write down for you the first impressions in comparison with the previous MAX. The physical aspect is almost identical with the Boox MAX. The only improvement, as advertised, is the screen resolution.
1. The letters are clearer and the black more intense
2. the white background is whiter
3. As such there is a better contrast.
The main advantage is that you can set a much smaller writing for your text/or you can read a small text in PDFs without sacrificing the quality of the letters. Theoretically, diagrams should look much better now, due to the improved contrast.
4. I tested a few images and photos too, and the contrast and clarity of the image is also superior, though don't expect high resolution rendering.
5. I couldn't identify any delay by page turning or by opening a book or PDF.
6. Can not tell for sure, but I've got the impression that occasionally the e-reader is a little bit slower while navigating through the main menu and the sd card. What do other Max Carta owners notice about that?
6. The device comes with the 1.8.2 update of Android 4.04 preinstalled and it has the same minor software related issues like the dictionary app (there are two en-en dictionaries available, but for other languages it doesn't work - with the 1.7 update all dictionaries worked fine). Booxtor told me the 4.4 update for Max Carta is being prepared, and it is a matter of weeks.

So, that's it. If you have any questions I will be happy to answer them. Nevertheless I'm not a very technical person and wouldn't be able to help. Keep in mind only that in the end this is the same product except the higher resolution screen.

It is the same for my e-reader. I figured out, onyx has changed the way you access apps and menu options. The reason you have to double click on them might be to make sure you didn't click on something by mistake. Last, but not least this is a striking similarity with accessing windows icons.

Thus it does not seem to be a glitch but a feature.

Thank you for reviewing the two e-readers, tsieta! Now, that you have both e-readers you can compare a few things (I sold my Max to buy Max Carta).

Here are a few questions:

1.Is the response time to your commands identical (separately) in the main menu and in the reading app?

2.When you are in the folder menu of your sd card and try to access a specific folder does it not sometimes open automatically the menu on the right corner of the screen? I experienced the same problem on both e-readers. It seems like an annoying glitch. I have to repeat the folder opening command once or twice to overwrite that unsolicited menu.

3. Sometimes, when I want to turn the pages with the stylus, the device does not respond properly and I have to repeat the operation. Is it common to you too?

Generally I am very pleased with the Max Carta, but it doesn't mean there are not some problems to be resolved or things to be improved with the next updates.

1. I checked with a few books on both devices, there is no noticeable difference in the reading app or the main menu.

2. Tried to open several folders and subfolders on SD-card. No problem I am pretty sure it is the way you are "clicking" with your pen on the folder, if I hold in the pen long enough, it opens up the menu, but I may be wrong.


3. That does happen. And that is the most annoying thing about these devices, the times where you have to repeat something. Sometimes you start repeating clicking because you're unsure whether it is working with your "command" or just is slow. Normally, it is just because it takes some extra time.

I haven't tested the note's app thoroughly on the carta, but I hope it does not have the same glitch as the onyx boox max, which is that sometimes, when taking notes, suddenly, what you wrote the last seconds, suddenly disappears. It has not happen to me in a while, but it has occurred. So I agree with you, I am very pleased, but there are things to be resolved

Last, I am glad to say that the difference in screen resolution IS visible. I opened the same book on both devices, and formulas and text looks more "clear".

2. You might be right about the way of clicking that causes that menu to open. I considered that possibility a while ago, but wanted a confirmation.

And yes, the better screen resolution makes definitely a perceivable difference. A future increasing of resolution would not bring much, but increasing the grayscale from 16 to 32 would improve significantly the rendering of diagrams, graphs, drawings and images. That would be a substitute for lacking colours.

Yep, Boox supply a free software for Max Carta to be used as an external monitor, but there's a much better commercial software developed by someone in China.
