The problem with Kobos touch screen is that the tap areas are in fixed positions; there are some options, but they are limited.

why not have buttons and touch screen similar to the Kindle Voyage, it's easy enough for Kobo to do it if they WANTED to.

I've been with my new all-USB-C Mac the last few weeks now, and I do like the USB-C connectors. Way nicer than the old USB 2.0, or USB 3.0, or Mini USB-B, or USB 2.0 Micro USB-B, or USB 3.0 Micro USB SuperSpeed sockets.

Having one USB-C charger to rule them all is fantastic. Not having to figure out which way is up so simple, but so convenient.

I've hooked the Kobo up via a USB-C to Micro-USB cable, and it works just fine. But come on now Kobo, update your hardware and save us buying adapter cables or dongles.

USB-C connector why not it seems to be going that way with a lot of things, bring the (what many think even if they don't say it on here) very useful external Micro SD card slot back.

also some new features like the already mentioned page turn buttons instead of always having to use the screen would be a nice long overdue addition, evolve Kobo other e-reader companies have.

take on board some of my idea's Kobo and you will shift considerably more units IMHO of course.

i for one would be happy to pay more for a e-reader if it incorporated all the features that i wanted and i'm sure so would many other people.

best wishes koboy

Therein lies the problem. I'm betting you're wrong on the many other people being willing to pay more. Kobo can only afford to have so many niche products in what is a niche market to begin with.

Dear koboy, I'm not sure if you understand. While yes there might be benefits to some of your wishes, they all add costs to the device, and marketing folk look very closely at the cost benefit analysis of adding features and increasing prices. Sure some folk might pay more for additional features like USB c, physical buttons, SD slots, but there are many many more who have no need for those features and the extra cost.

This is however just my opinion.

i see no problem putting back a feature like the Micro SD card slot, if they didn't want us the customer's to have it then they shouldn't have given it too us in the first place.

and regarding adding a practical useful feature like the page turn buttons, if Kobo can't be bothered to add new and significant features then why both bringing out any new models at all?

best wishes koboy

This is however just my opinion.

i don't need the patronizing sounding Dear, that said just like you all i am doing is giving my opinion nothing more and nothing less just like everyone else does on here.

i'm sure we would all like to see Kobo make the best possible e-reader that will suit most peoples needs if not all, but taking away a useful feature like the Micro SD card slot is the wrong way to go about it IMHO.

You don't always have to tap. To change page, you just have to swipe.

The problem with buttons is you lose the bezel as you cannot then hold onto it without maybe pressing a button. I think it's easier to not accidentally press the screen then buttons on the side.

The question is how many people would consider it a useful feature. Even within these fora, the number of people who are storing enough ebooks on their devices to justify using an external uSD card seems to be a relatively small number. A few years back when internal storage was 1.2GB (2GB less the space used by the system partitions), the external card was easier to justify. With 8GB of internal storage and 6.7GB available for books, justifying the cost and utility of the external card slot and card is getting more difficult.

Hmmm... looking at my KA1, currently it contains 3417 ebooks with 2GB left free. Assuming an average reading time of 2 hours per book (mostly fiction and I am a fairly fast reader), it would take me about 6834 hours to read. Going for the stranded on a desert island scenario and assuming that I would have 8 hours per day to read after taking care of food, water and other survival related items, it would take me about 854 days to read every book once.

I have to say this, it actually saves us buying new cables, adapters, etc. by sticking to microUSB. Most people have more microUSB cables then USB-C cables.

having been using this forum for almost 3 years, it's very clear to me that some on here are only interested in Kobo making the cheapest possible e-reader rather than concentrating on making the best, usual disclaimer applies IMHO, enjoy your day

But your suggestions don't make a better reader IMHO, I needen't buttons and, if they mean a bigger ereader, they're an annoyance for me. I shrug for a SD-card, I've had ereaders with it (and lees internal storage) and I've never used it. So, for me, those additions don't mean a better reader. Are they interesting for you? Good, but if somebody isn't interested in them doesn't mean they don't want the bet but their best is not your best.
