Yep. It's more useful to specify whether you hold the device in your left or right hand than whether you are left- or right-handed.

I'm right handed. I eat my breakfast (on weekends, when home) with my right hand. And I do sudoku with my left hand, just cause I want my brain occupied. My left hand is approaching 3rd grader efficiency in writing. The numbers 1-9, anyway!

I finally got an Oasis 2 weeks ago. I'm not sure if I love it or not. My fingers (either hand) want to grip on the thicker wedge, and that's just small enough to be cramping to the hand. I put the point of the device in my palm, curl my fingers on the wedge, and use the thumb for screen-touching or button pushing. But the thing is so slippery (and light) that I haven't perfected a grip I'm comfortable with. Any ideas for making it non slippery? Has anybody tried a "skin" (on the back only)?

Good one. The sketch in the avatar is what I actually look like (striking resemblance) but it was transposed. I missed all your posts as I was reading PD James "A Certain Justice" (I have no idea who did it) today. I do hold my kindle with my left hand and the coffee with my right.

The problem I have with ereaders is I hold my device in my left hand and prefer to page forward by touching the left side of the screen with a finger on my left hand without involving my right hand at all (don't want to have to put down my tea cup to turn pages). To page back I prefer to use the right hand side of the screen as that is something I do much less frequently. I have only found one ereader program that lets me configure page turning options to do this. Do I have options as to how the page turning (as in where to touch the screen, which buttons do what) on dedicated eink devices?

On the Kobo, when holding with my left hand, I just do a very small swipe with my left thumb. It works fine. Alternatively I reach a little and tap in the middle (I have it set so that the right 2/3 pages forward on tap).

It can also be configured so that the whole bottom third pages forward when tapped, and the top third backward.

Yes. Depending on the eink device and/or app.

On Kobo eInk readers, there are four options for tap zones, and I believe one of them would suit you.

With the Kindle Oasis: when you hold it in your left hand (having flipped it so buttons are on the left) the button orientation will flip too. It will match whatever you've set (your choice, which does which) and STAY that way when you flip it. IE If you like the bottom button as forward, when you flip, the bottom button (now the other physical button) is still "forward".

However, I wish they would reverse the screen touch areas. The left small area is designated for "backward", and that is still true when you hold it in your left hand. Thus, touching the screen with the left thumb is dicey; you may hit the backward area rather than the forward area. Bummer, as this is how I like to page (with screen touch, most of the time).

Even with the 'L-R' symmetric touchscreen Kindles, I wish they would allow some customization of the tap zones, if only to reverse the layout (or choose a more conventional left-center-right tablet layout). But yes, the Oasis is worse because the bezel is wider than other Kindles on the button side, so it is harder to reach over the narrow zone.

Do you like your Oasis so far, or still figuring out if it's right for you at this point ?

I like it enough that I'm gonna keep it. (I'm not real big on returning things, either, so that helps.) The lightness is a real plus, with my new found arthritis.

I still like my Voyage, though I haven't tried it since the Oasis arrived, so I haven't directly compared them. It's nice to have a "spare", in case something Dire happens!

Yup, though they are similar enough that it's less of an issue than with older kindles. Mom hasn't even grasped how to get the "info stuff" when you touch the top of a book's page. She just mashes the corner a bunch of times until it works out right that it gets her back to HOME. She was surprised when I got "info" up there. But I don't think she'll have remembered that fact .....

She's smart, but totally non-mechanical or electronic in thinking.
