The best place to start looking is the comments to the Dark Reverser's weblog. You want a recent version, so start from the end and work backwards. The most recent stable version is 0.07.
Scripts from pastebin download as .txt which needs to be renamed .py. |

My suggestion would be to keep your older versions as well. I have books the version 8/9 crash on that I have to run on the 3/4 versions.

Re: Crashes
Regarding the crashes of the newer versions:
Do you think you could try the very latest erdr2pml.py and let people know if it still crashes as well. There were a number of fixes in 0.08 and 0.09 that only work for newer type books that might not have been properly protected from being invoked when used on the older books. That have been fixed I am told but ... you never know. |

I'm willing to run the erdr2pml.py if I can find it on a non-torrent site. I don't do torrents. I can't read PML, though, so all I could tell you is if I got errors. EDIT: Is this a part of Calibre 0.6? I still can't run that on my computer. Last edited by FizzyWater; 11-25-2009 at 09:37 PM. |

Search for "Dark Reversers Blog" and read it (near the end) to fid links (non-torrent).

Hmmm....is there a reason that erdr2pml.py changes the footnotes to links? Also, what use are the chapters and links files? I don't believe that DropBook uses them.
As best as I can tell, erdr2pml.py seems mainly to support conversion to HTML rather than to recreate the original PML architecture. I've created a custom version, but as a USA citizen ![]() - Jim |

As far as I can see you're right - the footnotes and sidebars have been converted to links to make the conversion to hTML simpler. As you say - it's easy enough to tweak the code to make them footnotes and sidebars again.
If you're on a Mac, there's another step that needs to be done. The Mac version of DropBook assumes the PML file is in Mac OS Roman encoding, whle internally, all ereader files use Windows Latin-1 encoding, so on a Mac it's important to re-encode the pml file before using DropBook. Quote:

Now that's a very clever idea. And it'll handle those few irritating characters that are in Windows Latin-1 but not in Mac OS Roman. Thanks!

erdr2pml.py
Hi,
Actually erdr2pml.py does no html conversion at all. It just has the capability to unpack the **all** of the sections in the .pdb file. All of these extras can be discarded since they are actually recreated by Dropbook when dropping the pml file on. Most have already been commented out. So you can safely comment out chapters.txt and the link information too if you so desire. As for the footnotes and sidebars, they are converted to pml markup and not xml code. Unless something has changed Dropbook did not handle either sidebars or footnotes done via xml properly? Has that changed? If so, then then the comments in the code can easily be used to put in the xml code for Dropbook. Your change to clean up high chars in file for Mac OS is quite useful. Thanks. It is too bad this damn thing can't be properly hosted and developed just like any other piece of open source software. Oh well. KevinH |

DropBook handles the pseudo-XML markup for footnotes and sidebars perfectly. I do it all the time with my modified script. The problem was in the python converter:
Code:
smarker = '<sidebar id="sidebar-%s">\n' Code:
smarker = '<sidebar id="%s">\n' Code:
marker='\\t\\Q="sidebar-%s"' % id I'm at a crossroad on if I really want to contribute to the ereader "cleaning" project that DarkReverser has going. I like the eReader format for it's simplicity, semi-friendly DRM restrictions, and large device support. The last time a format was thoroughly defeated, it was dumped by the Publishers (Microsoft LIT). I'd prefer that didn't happen to the eReader format. - Jim |
