Nobel Prize has stopped knock, knock, knocking on Bob Dylan's door

Bob Dylan, the Swedish Academy just wants to make you feel their love.

Days after he was awarded the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature for "having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition" the Academy said it's given up on trying to reach the iconic musician.

"We have stopped trying -- we said everything we needed to his manager and friend, he knows about us being eager having confirmation from him, but we haven't heard anything back," Odd Zschiedrich, the administrative director of the Swedish Academy, told CNN on Tuesday.

He said they have been in touch with Bob Dylan's management but have not heard back from the singer-songwriter himself.

"We will have the ceremony as usual, he will have the prize even if he is not there," he said. "Now we are just waiting for information."

The committee said they'd honor him the prize regardless of whether he showed up or not, so even if he doesn't show, he'll always be a Nobel Winner. Seems odd though. Reading an article about his acceptance of his first honorary Phd it noted he was very uncomfortable with the whole process.

You are the winner the moment the announcement is made. It does not matter whether you show up for the ceremony or not.

The real question is will he cash the check. The monetary award is currently over one million $.

I hope he does. If he doesn't there are lots of musical causes that can use the donation.

Many people are uncomfortable about ceremony and that sort of thing. They are going about it all wrong. They should have invited him to PERFORM. And the payout happens to be the nobel check. He can probably handle that better than a bunch of talking heads making speeches and Vanna White flourishes.

I was thinking the same thing. Unless he's boycotting the Nobel for some reason (I mean, he's Bob Dylan, I assume they've done something that offends him....) then whether he wants to be part of the event or not, whether he wants or needs the money or not, I'm sure he'd find something to do with it.

But just in case he can't think of anything: Bob, if you're reading this, check out the link in my signature. It's a very worthy cause. My kids are adorable, and they are both in school band.

Highly unlikely. It's probably just a turn of phrase, I don't even know a Swedish bank that offers cheque accounts, and the odd occasion I've had to deposit one from overseas it's been a horrific drama.

Just so, a turn of phrase. In the US the Social Security administration no longer issues monthly checks to retirees. Direct bank account deposits only. Still people still speak of their monthly SS check.

In case of the Nobel Prize it probably is in gold bullion.
