Not sure why everyone is worried about the battery. It's plenty. The new Kindle has what, 250mAh, and it doesn't die right away when removing it from the battery-pack-case.

One thing that's really impressive about the Aura One is that it is too big to fit in most pockets which is a very good feature.

The biggest problem I can see with the Aura One is that I won't be able to put it in my jacket pocket while I walk from the train to the bus during my commute.

One more thing good about the Aura One, is big enough to use as an umbrella if you don't want your hair to get wet when it rain.

My old Glo was originally advertised as having one month battery life, but even though it is almost four years old I still get about 40 hours reading per charge over the course of a week or so. |

I just bought a Kindle Paperwhite as my Voyage got stolen... now I am deliberating to get this one. I still have my old Glo and made me remember how great Kobo fonts are.
Ugh, my greediness :'( |

Looking at the pic's in Nate the great's post it seems like books borrowed through OverDrive from the device might be KePubs synced from Kobo's cloud, rather than ePubs fulfilled from Adobe's cloud like on the Sony devices?
Edit: And if that is the case, it seems a lot like the way Amazon does public library borrowing in the US, and so raises all those problematic legal and ethical issues about a private company using data of public library borrowers' reading records to try to sell them books. Although the case might be a bit different for Kobo since unlike Kindle it would presumably still be possible, for those who object to that, to borrow in the existing way by downloading the ePub via ADE. The Aura One seems to be (specs wise) the perfect device for me. I had a Paperwhite 1 before (basically never used it), a PocketBook Inkpad (screen was a desaster, returned it) and a Kobo Aura HD (screen was to small for my purposes).
I'm reading PDFs, nearly 100% software development stuff. I haven't used a Kobo device for two years now: has the PDF viewer improved on current Kobo devices? Margin-cropping, zoom-level (that should not reset after every page turn). Can you full-screen PDFs? Two years ago you always had a footer showing "Page x of y", which could not be hidden. Thank you! Edit: I just tested a PDF, one with very wide margins, and found that turning the page doesn't change the zoom level, but does reset the pan position. However there is a firmware patch named `Preserve PDF pan position across page turns` that does what its name suggests, and with that patch applied I can zoom in to crop out the PDF's wide margins and thereafter turn pages without the viewport position changing at all. In other word, if you read a lot, a "one-month" battery eReader should probably reach 30 to 40 hours of reading (depending on light settings of course, see my stats). It's far more than the best tablet outthere. |
