Connects to Dropbox fine, but won't connect to Box. Box is the one I want to use if possible.

Box works fine for me. What does it do for you?

Could you send me a CC debug log? Please erase the multipie.co.uk email address when you send it.

After approving CC to access Box it pops up a message that "CC is unable to communicate with the cloud provider, cloud connection will close"

I just sent you a debug log

Thank you

I just created a second box account unrelated to CC's development. Unfortunately for debugging I was able to connect CC to it.

Here are my account setup details:
  • Account type: personal, free, 10gb
  • Security tab: Login verification: Require 2-step verification for unrecognized logins is unchecked
  • Notification tab: Login Activity: When your account is accessed from a new device is checked
Are your details different in any way? In particular, are you using a corporate account that might have enhanced security?

Also, does it do it immediately or after walking down the directory tree a bit?

It does it immediately after I authorize it.
My settings are the same as yours, no special security.

Thanks.

According to the debug log Box is saying "I can't read the folders", in this case the children of the root. As far as I can tell this is not the same as "there are no child folders". I have no idea why it is telling me that. Hmmm.. is it a shared folder owned by someone else? That might require some special processing.

I have added more debug output to CC that will appear in the next beta, whenever that is. Perhaps that will help me find the problem.

Another thing that would help but is a big leap of trust for you: giving me your credentials. If you are willing then I suggest you change your password, give me your credentials with the new password, then change it back as soon as I tell you I have tried and (failed | succeeded) in finding the problem. I understand if you don't want to do this. I wouldn't do it if I were you and if I had anything in Box other than my library, and even if it was only my library I would need to think long and hard about it.

Just tried OneDrive & it works. Box will popup the window showing current path for a split second then I get the error message.

I would move me Calibre library to OneDrive, but with my slow wireless connection it would take forever to sync it to the cloud.
With Box I have been adding to my library for almost 2 years & lots of books.

And for the life of me I can't figure out why that is happening. I can't make it fail.

By any chance is your library in the root folder instead of in a subfolder? This does create problems.

Take a look at https://mover.io/. It can apparently move your data using its network, not yours. And it is free for personal use.

That said, I hope I can find why it fails for you before you abandon Box.

Are you going to release an RC version for people following this forum but not in the beta group? I just heard of the project today, while I was looking around cloud providers to find one with an ebook app.

Why not just join the beta group?

I don't believe Google provides a way to provide a general RC rollout, you need to be included in a group by the developer in order to get anything other than the production app...
...at which point the semantics are not meaningful -- just roll out another beta.

Which is what chaley does.

eschwartz has the right of it. The only mechanism available for providing an APK to a known subset of users is alpha/beta test. The third mechanism, staged rollout, limits the number of people who get an update to some percent, but there is no way to know who got it. Google decides using some unknown process who amongst the user community is offered a staged update and when.

CC V4 (with cloud support) will go to production this week (I hope). We are waiting for Amazon to approve the app. Their conditions say explicitly that we cannot put an app that supports Amazon Cloud Drive into production until they have approved it. I am willing to wait a few days given that the alternative is removing Amazon support from CC.
