I have an even later version at 3.1.1. Prior to this version, DRM kepub were not shown and you had no idea which ones they were given the messy filenames Kobo uses when the desktop software downloads.

I don't remember any earlier version showing the file names. They only showed the book title. And I think the original only showed the books with DRM. I used the version that that Lynx-Lynx referred to, but I don't remember if it actually extracted the DRM-free books.

I did have 3.1.1 but hadn't bothered to installed it. I thought the only difference was to add translations. I can see a lot of changes to the messages but no function changes.

That is what many people do with Amazon books, and it also means they need only open Kindle for PC/Mac to auto-download new books, then open calibre and have all new books auto-added.

You literally do not have to do anything other than start the respective programs from the start menu.
I could never get the Calibre auto-add process to work.

Calibre didn't add the books. It just sat there. Is it supposed to add them immediately? Or is there a delay?

They are queued and should be added when calibre has spare time on its hands. i.e. it won't bring calibre to a crashing halt in the middle of your metadata operations or what have you, just because a background process found some books to import and decided it should have priority.

I haven't really timed the average wait... but yes, there is a small delay.
