Please note that the EBOOK "The Vampyre," as listed above is not the same title that the reviews are concerned with. (This ebook publisher, 'Xist Classics', puts out some of the most horrendous, cheap-looking covers one can imagine.)

But getting to the real heart of this: When I first took a doctoral course on 'The Gothic,' I've been fascinated by anything to do with Gothic fiction in literature. This bastardized listing from 'Xist Classics' is NOT the book the reviewers are talking about. They are talking about a paperback edition [only in paper, unfortunately], titled "The Vampyre and Other Tales of the Macabre" [Oxford Press]. That's the book that one should get.

So be warned: The listing above contains ONLY Polidori's text, a public-domain listing that can be acquired from almost any source and probably in a better edition (and certainly in a better cover) than the listing from Amazon.

Of course, if you have not read Polidari, run to your nearest blood-bank and read it. But not in this edition........

I agree , I read it a few years ago myself. I was laughing out loud throughout the book. Great summertime read about Pirates. I'm a Michael Crichton fan, and thought he must have had a lot of fun writing Pirate Latitudes.
