Ordering reader from Kobo Store - Page 9

I think there must be a bit of a misunderstanding. I use the standard calibre 'Tags' column to create my Kobo Collections, no custom 'My Shelves' required. In case it helps, attached is a screencap of my Kobo driver config settings.

Can I specify tags and series as in tags, series?

Yes, you can do it. As you can see, you can choose more than a column:

Um.... you could just have added Tags to the field in the Kobo driver. My Shelves was just an example!

Peter: I thought it was obvious, but maybe you should change the instructions to say that the shelf field is a list of columns, and that anything can be used. Or at least I can't think of a type that doesn't work.

Sorry, I was just following the instructions as written. And as written, they specified 'My Shelves.'

If you can use anything you want, including tags that were already there, it should have said so.

Too late for me, as I already spent a couple of hours copying tags for 600 books, but it could CERTAINLY save someone else the effort.

And why would you even WANT to set up a separate, custom column for it, since Calibre already HAS a 'tags' column by default?

Not that I don't appreciate the effort, but the instructions could be clearer on that point.

I think you took to strict a reading of what was said in that post. And if you read through that thread, you will see that there are a lot of alternatives that people used.

Ouch. But, why did it take so long? I think about 10 minutes should have done it. In any case, you can delete that column, change the configuration

Because I don't want to create collections by tags. If I used tags from one of my libraries, it would be creating at least 1000 collections. I use the tags column for descriptions of the story. I use other columns for different things such as state. But my "My Shelves" column is manually with just a few shelves for specific reasons.

Yes. It's always hard for someone who knows the details to write this. They always miss something that they assume the user knows. Or at least I do. Would you like to add the bits that are missing?

Yes you can. PeterT has changed the guide many times since he originally posted it, usually after a suggestion from someone. If someone come up with a better version, even a better version of one paragraph, I am sure he will be happy to use it. Even pointing out the spot you think is lacking and why will help.

Unfortunately yet again this raises an issue that I have tried asking the community about in the past, but that NO ONE seems to want to help do it.

Namely, a LOT of the tips and hints we have here would be more suited to being stored in the MobileRead Wiki, where others could edit them if they found them to be confusing,

If I grab the hints/tips/tricks as I come across them, is there a place to put them for others to have a look at before they are posted in the wiki?

Well on e of the benefits of the Wiki is that anyone can edit them

So as long as someone is prepared to start the jon rolling, then others can join in the fun.

Well, it took a number of days, but I finally got my order from kobo cancelled. (5 days of trying)

I have placed an order through chapters and within a couple of hours I received 2 confirmations (one saying they received my order, the second confirming the details including a lovely tracking link - it's awaiting shipment!)

So, again, thanks to everyone.
I love Kobo, but ... Oh.Em.Gee. will they be getting an earful about their CS and order policies. (There is no reason in this day and age there should not be a way for them to show you the status of your order.)

Long time Kindle user wanted to take Kobo for a spin. I placed my order for a Kobo H2O on Thursday, November 20. Arrived via FedEx on Tuesday the 25th. Pretty quick for crossing an international border. I never received a confirmation number. I live in the MetroWest region of Massachusetts (around Interstate 495).

Developing my impressions of the device. Nice device, though I suspect my long time in the walled Amazon garden has made me very comfy there... I'll probably post impressions of it at a later point after I play a bit longer.
