It (the plugin) does have a tkinter gui for selecting the parameters. I'm curious about other plugins as well. Especially ones that use tkinter.

I guess "crashing" is overly dramatic. The plugin window comes up, the screen goes black and then I get what looks like the boot or restart screen with the white apple on a black screen and a white progress bar and then the User Login screen. The Epubcheck plugin works fine but TagMechanic exhibits the same behavior.
I will check my Tk/Tcl version. --MH |

I does seem to be related to Tk/Tcl. I have a ver. 8.6 and an app titled Wish 8.6 was installed in my Utilites folder in Applications. If I try to run that app I see the same restart/user login result. I am downloading a new version now. Will let you know.

Downloaded a new version of ActiveStateTcl. Works now. I guess my version of 8.6 (Feb 2019) wasn't what was needed. Thanks.

Interesting. Thanks for reporting back. The two plugins you mentioned having the issue both use Tk. So that makes sense. As does the fact that EpubCheck (which has no GUI) did work.

The latest versions, either 8.6.9 or 8.6.10 would be best as they both support macOS dark mode as well. I personally build from source the 8.6.10 version. ActiveState adds even more bells and whistle's to this version.
macOS uses shims and symlinks to interface and change tcl/tk versions and tries to support their very very old 8.5 version and the more recent one side by side. My guess is the shims got broken resulting in a call into the weeds so to speak. |

SmartyPants is never going to work for all situations that can be encountered. I've tried to be very clear (and frequent) about pointing that out.

To be honest, I think smartypants is purposely converting the straight single/double quotation marks in that example to single/double slanted prime marks. In many typographic circles, that IS correct for latitude/longitude or inches/feet.

′ PRIME (U+2032) + ″ DOUBLE PRIME (U+2033) are the correct symbols. Side Note: And don't confuse these with RIGHT SINGLE/DOUBLE QUOTE: ’ (U+2019) + ” (U+201D) these are curly in most fonts, while the primes are perfectly straight lines: ′ + ″ (Primes) ’ + ” (Quotations) Ebook Side Note: Personally, I convert primes back to their dumb equivalents... because I've found some old devices (Nook) don't have those two symbols. But for Text-to-Speech reasons, the proper characters should be used. Side Note #2: And for more details/info on some obscure typographical questions, see "Punctuation rules of thumb?", especially Jellby's + my posts. I was amazed to see that. Most "smart quotes" as in MSWord, convert these to curly quotation marks, which look absurd (She was 5’2”) in most fonts, yet I see it in print all the time. Once they've been "primed" they are immune to being screwed up by "smart quotes". In print layout I often made the figures into words to avoid that (five feet, two inches) when it was difficult to turn off the conversion. Last edited by AlanHK; 07-30-2020 at 11:22 PM. |

The zip file in message #106 (0.3.4b) I can install. The one in message #1 (0.3.3) does not install; it produces the message about it not being a valid sigil plugin.
