There is no standard for what an exth 113 should look like.
Quality Check will embed a UUID for the exth 113 unless someone has manually set an amazon:xxxxxxxxxxxx identifier in the calibre metadata. calibre IIRC does not set the ASIN at all -- that is why Quality Check has the option, I assume. The precise format of the exth 113 field should not make a difference. |

Calibre will typically generate an ASIN for the book (24 chars long or whatever). I don't know about any plugins that help with it, but the quality check thing might do it.
I usually open the book in a MOBI metadata editor and put the Amazon one in myself. The Calibre-generated ones worked fine in the past, but they may be checking it now to see if book has X-Ray enabled. Still unsure if that would prevent it from loading a custom one or not though. |

I've been going through all my ebooks in Calibre and making sure there is an Amazon ASIN associated with every book. The X-ray generated with the same name format as my previous post always works on my PW 5.4.4.2. I've modified a local copy of X-ray Generator code to check for the Amazon ASIN during the Kindleunpack stage. It also allows searching for the selected book on Shelfari automatically and creates AuthorProfile.profile.ASIN.asc and EndActions.data.ASIN.asc, and they seem to work ok, but most of the changes are pretty poor coding as it was my first attempt at C# development.

The CAlibre UUID vs Amazon ASIN *shouldn't* make a difference, I had made a change a while back to specifically support books with the UUID format because it was working, but thing may have changed. I'll have to test it on my PW1 to see if it still works there even if it doesn't on the PW2 or Voyage. |

I actually used a post here on the forums (might be yours) to help me create the files, along with some files from purchased books on my Kindle. Here's my modified source code (7z file), please bear in mind my level of C# coding is very low and my only other experience was with VB a few years ago... This is my first attempt at C# and it took me ages to figure out what your code was actually doing and how it all worked together, so it's a mess atm, but it works ok for me. It's your original work that motivated me. Thanks!

The AuthorProfile stuff is pretty awesome too, for not knowing much about C# you pretty much nailed it. I am a bit confused about the Pen Name/Author name part for the End Actions, though. I'll get to work on merging the changes over to the main source (especially the interface!!) and cleaning it up a bit if you don't mind. I will credit you in the source as well as on the main thread here. Let me know if you object ![]() Thank you so much for the time you put into modifying it, I really appreciate it. ![]() |

As far as I know, the PW2 still isn't working. It was suggested that ensuring the ASIN in your book is the Amazon ASIN and not the Calibre-style UUID (one with dashes) might make it work, but it might also require Amazon to have the book X-Ray enabled on their store already, I haven't heard one way or the other yet.

Hi everyone, I'm new here..
First of, Well done! great tool! I have successfully created some x-rays for Kindle. One issue though: When I a book with character names that contain special characters they get messed up. For example, a name like 'Wennerström' is saved in the generated .aliases file as 'Wennerstrֳ¶m'. I've tried toggling the 'Output in UTF8' option on/off but still no success. Is this a known issue? Thanks. |

I have switched the method the builder uses for downloading from Shelfari to one that should work better for special characters. You can download it from the main post (version 1.55). Let me know if you still have issues with it. Still working on merging the changes darrenmcg made into the main program, it will still be a while before it is released as I haven't had much time to work on it lately. No update on the PW2 issues, trying to get my hands on one to do some testing... |

Worked
Hi Ephemerality,
Sorry for the long pause, I was busy lately and didn't get a change to check the fix. That worked well, thanks! Are there still any open issues with the program? I'd like to help when I have some time... Quote:

The only issue that I'm aware of at the moment is building X-Rays for the newest firmware on the PW2 and Voyage. I still have no idea what is preventing them from loading. If anyone is able to figure it out, that would be amazing. |
