I searched my to-read list... at first I was excited, then realized the first few were indies. As I got further and further down the list (and checked for the book that I'm reading now) I became disillusioned and decided that there's no way that I'm signing up.

I am almost always signed in (and was this morning). I didn't even realize there was more than one place to click and don't know exactly where I clicked...I just thought I'd warn people in case they didn't notice that little "feature."

I watched the video without joining. In my experience with Amazon, you always get an immediate thank you and confirmation anytime you buy, followed by an email confirmation of your purchase or action. No surprises.

Is there someplace where you can look through all the ebook offerings currently in the KU? Say, by title or author...

It would be interesting to run my list of 150 (or so) "can't find at a library" or "won't buy them 'cause the price exceeds my willing limit" books and see how many are in the list.

Also, why would they be in an SQLite db? Kindle for PC usually downloads the actual files.

The Cloud Reader may utilize SQLite for client-side browser caching, although there are a few technologies there...

And the Win8 app uses some sort of cache as well, which may involve SQLite or something else entirely -- I have no idea.

But K4PC never did.

If it works with all existing devices and apps, then it must work without device firmware / software upgrades so not database I guess. An old kindle will expect an individual book file - it's firmware was designed well before they invented this service.

But K4PC never did.
Because if the books aren't in a SQ db, then you can keep all of them, convert, copy and go over the 10 limit.
