Some books are for sale AND covered in the subscription (I don't know whether these are separate editions or what). It's weird but if you want a certain book it's probably worth looking for it several ways. And sorting by Best-Sellers will make the curated books float to the top some more. But their search feature is truly suckerific (as is their hit list format tbh. Fortunately I have found a few hundred books to read anyway). |

I am probably the ideal reader for such a percentage reading. I always read all books from page one to last page. I don't flip, I don't skim and I don't go to the end first. From A to Z, that'ts me.
![]() Heck, I can't even read series out of order, even if they are barely connected. I don't even like reading samples. Just a full book from start to finish. I am even bothered that the app/website shows the books I finished at 99 percent, even though while in the book it says 100. There are no more pages to go to and it says 99 on both I finished. ![]() |

I can accidentally tap a Table of Contents chapter while paging through and accidentally end up halfway through a book...I HATE that!

Page appearance...
Quote:
" Hi! I'm a new trial user. Basically I find the appearance of books on the iPad severely lacking. Maybe I am used to Caecilia on the Kindle app with the ability to control line spacing and margins. How do I achieve the same level of control with the Scribd reader? Thanks, David " Support responded: "Hi David, Thanks for contacting Scribd. Sorry for the trouble. While we do offer some basic viewing options such as enlarging text, we don't offer line spacing or managing margins." So I wrote back: "I find this baffling. Surely your readers and their comfort should be your top priority. As it stands the reading experience could only be described as poor and this must affect every trial that your users start. I'm the squeeky wheel but I'm totally sure that I am far from alone. Please change this request to NOT resolved and HIGH priority. Thanks, David" They responded: " (Support Desk) Apr 21 12:12 PM Hello, David. We take all suggestions into account, and I've passed this along to our team for review as a feature request. As such, I have marked this ticket as solved pending any further support issues." Clearly these people would be happy selling books carved onto stone tablets. Silly beyond belief! David ![]() |

I agree that they should add some more features like line spacing, fonts and such. So far its looked pretty good on my fire, besides the little slow page changing. I am surprised still how much I like the san serif font in this app. I never read san serif normally, can't stand them. But this one almost looks like a serif font. And so far the spacing has been just about right for me, so I guess I am lucky on that front.
My fire is a 8.9 model, so I am holding and reading like a hard cover since there are no colums. I have gotten somewhat used to it. I wish I had a smaller tablet though, if for weight alone. But I am just happy they even have a fire app now, they didn't always have that. And other services like Oyster have only app for i thingies so it leaves everyone else out completely. I wonder how different the apps look compared to the Fire, android app, Ithingy app. I can't compare as I only have this fire. |

![]() (I have to admit I kind of like the doublespacing, it's easier on my eyes, but it does make you have to turn pages a lot on a phone.) |

That 99% thing bugs me too, the Kindle app is bad about it, pretty much every completed book shows 99% instead of 100%. ![]() Quote:

Color me confused. I came across a book in the subscription area that was 13 pages. I assume that meant short story/novella. But I think it was just a sample of the full book. Now why anyone would want to bother putting samples in there is beyond me. There's something I am not understanding. And I can't find where it would have told me either. It does say something about Read it first at the top, so maybe it isn't even published yet (Publisher is macmillan).
Don't know if this link will work. http://www.scribd.com/doc/116372701/...ornish-Mystery Anyway, I guess I'll be warned not to start anything short unless I know for sure it is a short story and not a sample. I can read samples anywhere so why would I waste time doing it this way? Bother. |

Thanks for letting me know. I will send in a question about why it is only for sale. I am wondering about a few others that I can't find--Snitched, Snatched and Dragons of Wendal won't ship, even though I tried. Those books don't have a notice in the front that says they are Smashwords versions so I believe Smashwords will not ship out to any retailers unless I upload a special copy with a notice that says it is the Smashwords version (I believe that is the problem, although I've been round and round trying to figure it out. It's one of the reasons I am not uploading any of my new stuff there.) Thank you again. Much appreciated. |

Does anyone know if Carina Press signed up with SCRIBD? I know it may have been talked about earlier, but I don't remember if that one was mentioned.

Thanks. I found something by Carina, but I think it may have been illegally uploaded. It shows subscription stuff under my search and then "other documents" and the book is an "other document." I'll try to figure it out and I can email someone at Carina and ask them if it is legit if I can't.

90 days as a free trial has to be good, no? If you don't like it, you don't have to take it on, if you do then you keep it going. Suck it and see. Good spot OP.
