I have upgraded my AuraHD and my mini to 3.1.0. Been reading on both for 2 days now and am very happy with both. The images on the home screen on the mini are slightly larger but I find them more pleasing than the original. Of course my eyes are old so I am better able to see the image.I don't mind the small amount of image that is cropped. Calibre 1.14 and koboutilities plugin seems to work well with both readers plugged in by usb, haven't tried wireless yet. The two screenshots are from my mini.

I noticed some people on a German forum complaining they had trouble using WiFi after upgrading to 3.0 or 3.1. The Kobo connects to the WLAN, but after that it wion't connect again. A reboot will allow it to connect again, but only once.

I checked, and unfortunately this happens here too. If I try to reconnect, I get the error message "Something went wrong... Please try again". I had no trouble using WiFi before, and other devices work just fine.

The Kobo is an Aura HD, and the router is a FRITZ!Box 7360.

Anybody else seen this? Could it be a new bug?

I'm curious what is the actual issue with this. I've just noticed that the line spacing is extreme when using Kobo Nickel, even on the minimum slider setting it's quite much. Is this what you are refering to? If so...then apparently this bug is persistent in 3.1.0 because that's what I'm using.

I can confirm my experience is like that of gunbad ...

The ... Firmware 3.1.0 - not meant for Kobo MINI
works well on everything I've been using it for a week or so.

ON KOBO MINI:

OK - calibre
OK - pocket
OK - start-screen/page
OK - better performance in several areas
OK - wifi re-connect
(and the new much improved web browser is actually usable)

I'm starting the rumour that
- the mini is not being dropprd by kobo
- on the contrary -
only the MINI is to be supported in future

I am seeing the same thing with my Aura HD after upgrading to 3.1. All other devices (and I have many) work just fine and the HD did also until the upgrade.

I have just loaded 3.1.0 on my Auta HD. Reconnecting to wifi seems to work OK for me but the wifi icon doesnt seem to come up until you start the browser, resync or whatever. Whether it has always behaved like that I dont know as I never noticed.

More and more people are reporting wifi problem with the Aura HD, for some access points. See issue #29

For me, it looks like the Aura HD's connection script is trying to do something during the handshake that it shouldn't.

I also used mark 4 and all the files. Checked my wifi on the mini and it's working well with Calibre and the internet.

No adobe, drm, no kobo store = no drm kepub etc problems

... could that be why connections are problematic for others?

Most of the difficulties reported on the forum I don't experience

Just sayin' ... ???

overheard in a cyber cafe ...

" ... before kobo firmware upgrade to 3.n.n
I used the hosts file to block all connections to kobo sites
and connecting to the internet was never a problem.

After upgrading to 3.n.n I had to stop blocking
with the hosts file to enable connections.

Could it be kobo was phoning home to confirm an unmodified device
and (possibly unintentionally) crippling the wifi connection I wondered?

In any case enabling the connection corrected the problem.

I was using the best (and my favourite ereader, a kobo mini) and
curiously the firmware that was - NOT meant for the mini
- continued to work as expected.

In time complaints surfaced from users of other models
describing connection anomalies.

Could it be that the mini
(rumoured to be discontinued by kobo)
was inadvertantly spared an attempt to
-close-
the most
-open-
of ereaders?

That would be a shame as the -open- aspect of kobo ereaders
is why I chose that brand.

In any case this is probably speculative nonsense.

(I will be keeping a copy of
firmware 3.1.0 for sure
and my "last of the working kobo ereaders")
... the one that fits in my pocket.

... pass the hot sauce ... "
