Of course you can. Start a thread called "Let's Chat about Kindle Paperwhite 3 rumours" (or something similar) and you can post to it to your heart's content without anyone raising a word of objection. That way, the thread will accurately reflect the topic of discussion.

I agree about the topic. It would've been worded differently, had I started it. But that's why I said a polite mention early in the thread would be appropriate. But it's not necessary to continue to do so every few posts. And especially in such an angry way.

By all means, go ahead and let people know. But ONCE is sufficient. Continually doing so, just becomes badgering.

That would be a much kinder way to handle it.

But again, someone else is bound to come along and start another thread without knowing to use the word "rumor" in the subject. If it's not possible to change the subject, could you at least make your reminders fewer and less like a scolding? After all, the people on the receiving end of a response aren't the ones responsible for starting the thread.

In essence, all rumors are unsubstantiated, no? The very nature of the word "rumor" means that there's no proof. And it's perfectly ok to point out that you don't think this particular rumor will come true. I'd agree with you; it's a long shot. But to do so repeatedly and as if we are children who need to be reminded of our naivety is insulting.

I think the fact that this UNSUBSTANTIATED RUMOR has been put out there by another avenue other than MobileRead, it's free-game to discuss. There will be a Paperwhite 3 at some point. If you don't want to talk about it, then don't.

Nobody is saying "don't discuss it". My concern is that it is not being discussed in a manner which makes it clear to the reader that it is merely a rumour. Given the undeniable fact that people are continuing to post to this thread in the mistaken belief that there is some factual basis to it (eg see posts 12, 37, 40, 46), it clearly needs to continue to be pointed out that there is not, because the message is plainly not getting across.

The point isn't getting across to you. It's been stated that it's a rumor. The SECOND post states it's a rumor. Why does the fact that people continue to discuss it in this thread mean that we believe it has factual basis? A lot of people are asking if it's true, but inquiring as to whether or not someone thinks it's coming out soon and believing it are two different things.

Look at post 12 in the thread, for example. That is simply one of many examples of someone who did NOT realise that this wasn't a factual discussion. I've given you three more examples - how many more do you need before it finally sinks in that everyone who looks at this thread does NOT realise that it's merely a rumour?

As mentioned earlier by some posters, can this problem be solved and settled by changing the title of this thread? Changed to "Kindle Paperwhite 3 rumours"?
