I sold one thing on Amazon, and I realized the final fee was much higher than a corresponding final value fee on ebay, so never sold another thing on Amazon.

The advantage of selling stuff on Amazon is that you can list it, and it just sits there forever until someone eventually buys it. I've sold stuff that's been listed for a couple of years. It's a really good system from that point of view. There's not the time pressure of eBay.

Did you use "fulfilled by amazon"? Do they have to use your checking account or charge card? I may have to call them and ask. They are selling SGP5 for $229 used and only giving $57 for trade-in's so maybe I will cancel the trade-in I have a week to decide since I issued the trade-in Friday.
Thanks Harry.

How much are the Amazon fees? On eBay, I think I'm paying between 20% and 25% of the sale price in fees by the time I pay the eBay entry fee, the eBay sales fee, and the PayPal fees.

I found a calculator feature at Amazon and did an estimate on the Ipod Nano 7 gen 32gb, and it says $8 fee if I ship it myself. That is a founder's fee. If FBA (fulfilled by Amazon) it is an addition $2.50. So $10.50 for me selling it at $100. I may do that if I don't have to put checking account in, still trying to figure that out.

I got the Ipod Touch ready to ship tomorrow for trade-in, before I ship the SGP5 off I am waiting to see how this goes.

No, because there is an ongoing charge for that. I ship the items myself. They send me an email when someone buys something.

They pay by making a direct transfer into your bank account (at least that's how it works in the UK). That's how pretty much anyone pays you in our banking system.

Thanks. That is not bad at all as ebay would charge more like 20%! That is why I try to sell items in the Fleamarket here at MR and in various fleamarkets related to other hobbies I have. If they don't sell there, I put them on eBay. I might start using Amazon though. I already get a payment once a month from them on a book I listed, so it shouldn't be hard to set up for this service too.

Signing up as a seller with Amazon is very easy.

I didn't see there were extra charges for fulfilled by Amazon, how much more, is it per month? Seems like the buyer would be nervous giving their address to a stranger to have the item shipped to them. But I guess that applies to any purchase even on flea market here.

Have you sold on flea market on MR? How do you protect yourself as a buyer or seller? I would ask for an Amazon gift card before I ship, but maybe I am afraid risking sending someone I don't know a $100 item and then get nothing in return.

Can you elaborate on how to sell here on flea market? Do you ask for payment first, then ship? Either way it seems scarey to trust a stranger as a buyer or seller. One has to either ship or pay first, so one or the other is at risk. I may be to chicken to risk it.

I've sold a few eInk readers here on the Fleamarket. I do what I do on eBay, I require a PayPal payment up front, then send the item as soon as I receive the payment. PayPal is secure, but it cost the seller about 3% of the sale price, so you need to factor that in when setting the price.

Also I refuse to ship out of the continental USA. I tried shipping to parts of Europe (eastern bloc) once, and that was way more trouble than it is worth. So now I only ship CONUSA.

I am not using trade-in anymore. My first experience was with my Ipod Touch 4G 8gb that I marked return if not accepted. Well they are rejecting because it did have a few superficial scratches on the back. I guess I should have said don't send back, but I figured I would get a low price. Too bad I did the same thing with the SGP5 I sent yesterday. If they reject that too they are crazy. It was in a silicone case and no scratches.

Anyway, I won't be sending my Kindle Fire HD in now. I was going to get the Kindle Fire HDX. Nope not now. I will consider used items mine to keep. You don't get anything for them. Not worth the trouble.

I learned from my mistake.

New, the iPod Touch would still make a kid happy, if you sold it on Ebay or through Amazon. Not sure about the SGP, but there will surely be children asking for an iDevice this Christmas whose families may not be able to afford new ones.

Amazon pay you once every two weeks; the credit for an item goes into your seller account as soon as you tell the system that you've shipped the item.

It's difficult to see how it would be possible to ship something to somebody without knowing their address. It's certainly never occurred to me to be nervous about it. I'm in the phone book; my address is a matter of public record.

Definitely, as it is still the current model since Apple didn't update the touch line this year. It can run iOS7 and any iPhone app. Just show good photos of it and mention the scratches. I think it would be worth a lot more on eBay or Amazon than the trade-in program would have paid.
