I just manually installed 2.8.1 on my Kobo Glo.

Had a bit of a play around with it. It seems a bit more snappy and a few icon and screen changes.

All in all, looks pretty neat

That is an added file for the tweaks plugin. It doesn't come or get created by the Kobo firmware. If you were following instructions from that thread, then you were installing the tweaks, not the updated firmware.

Hi,

I've tried FW 2.8.1 and it's ok but there is always the same problem with bookmark :

Explain : On the main page you can see yours last books with the number of bookmarks for each of them. Then you can see all bookmarks of a book in a single page and you can delete the ones you want in a menu.

Sometimes (very often) when you restart your kobo, the ones you have deleted are coming back. The problem seems was known with 2.6.1 and seems only happen with in the main memory.

INCREDIBLE. Top margin, no, then top margin yes, now again NO! It will be the third time i modify all my epubs CSS because the text is too near the bezel. Is it so hard to add an option to allow people choose whether to have or not a top margin??????????????

With the Kobo i spend more time adjusting epubs (margin, blocked size fonts, blocked size line spacing bla bla bla) than reading!

How true. I think Kobo is trying to respond to customer requests, but are having trouble with the requests being conflicted. (I'm in agreement with you: the text is now too close to the bezel. I'm guessing that others want it closer. I also find it annoying how text gets chopped off when the top bar is visible. Others clearly disagree. Etc.)

Yup, I can confirm that. Here it displays the last page read and hangs with 'Loading' in the footer (as if it never ends loading the chapter HTML file). And like you say, it doesn't happen on all files. Some work fine.

Well, I'm glad it's not just me. It only happened on my Glo, the same file opened fine on the Mini.

I loaded it as an epub after that and it worked great. Epubs look really good after this update!

Now I just need Calibre to update.

The change is checked in and will be in the next build. The change is only to bump the version number as there have been no changes in areas that the driver depends on. In the meantime, use the "Support newer firmware" option in the driver configuration.

Ok, I thought I had that checked but guess not. I will investigate.

That did the trick!

I have that checked (I think ). I'm at work right now, but I'll experiment a bit this evening with sending a few more epubs to my Aura with 'convert to kepub' enabled (my standard setting) to see whether I can get a feeling for which work and which don't. I can PM you one that works and one that hangs on opening with 2.8.1 if you want.

I have opened bug 1204504 for this.

Did the page-count footer always display in the same font you've set the body text to? It looks better, whatever the reason.

I do understand it is more or less fustrating to modify settings again and again.
But keep in mind the Kobo minimum page margins are absolute, hardcoded minimum settings and can not be altered by user input.
So it is possible to make margins bigger but never smaller than these hardcoded minimum settings. In firmwares 2.5.2 - 2.6.x these hardcoded minimums were to large and Kobo took a wise decision to restore them to the previous default settings of firmware 2.5.1 and earlier.
The biggest issue concerning page margins seems to be the bottom bar (pageometer in reading mode) which can not be adjusted anymore.
I hope Kobo will add pageometer feature to reduce it or hide it completely. Either through the GUI menu or an entry in the configuration file.

I just tried this and it doesn't happen on my Glo. Closing the book's details page returns the view to the same position in the library I was before I opened the details page.

The top margin in ePubs has gone completely. Now I will have to go through my library in Calibre and add back the @page{margin-top:10pt} that I removed after upgrading to 2.5.2. I don't really mind whether the margin is there or not (since I can add it myself if it is missing), but I hope they they will make up their mind and stop changing it.

Edit: Actually there is a very small side and top margin, it is not quite zero. Picture attached of my Glo with margin slider at minimum. (ePub, 2.8.1)
Thanks for this convincing photo.

An option allowing the user to set up its vertical margins would surely be the best choice. Meantime, I am quite happy to learn there is a comeback about vertical margins and I will update my 2.5.1. firmware, dreaming about a way to get rid of the long paragraph bug...
