I was not responding to pazu, so I have no idea why you mentioned him. I did not claim any promise by Amazon, I quoted another poster's words using both the forum quote function and quotation marks which should have made that crystal clear, but you continue to misunderstand.

I don't consider any of the other models to be an upgrade - the Fire is in a category of it's own - and so no reason to upgrade. When my K3 dies (may the day be far away), I'll look to see what's available then.

Amazon gladly pays your airtime fees for delivering books, but (for me at least) it should be rather obvious that there is no free lifetime 3G for surfing included in a 50$ surcharge on the 3G model.

Yes, it's obvious from the advertisement. But I'm talking about the fact that the free 3G is missing. This mere fact is disappointing itself.

Totally agree with you, and I don't think I will have to keep upgrading my ebook reader, the Kindle Keyboard is quite what I want now.

A new reader may have... faster page turning speed? Smaller but with the same screen size? Lighter? Clearer? Oh a back lite is good...

But I'm quite happy with my Kindle Keyboard at the moment, happier than the Kindle Touch.

The Kindle Keyboard could let you surf anything for free.

The Kindle Touch can't.

So it's a cut down version of some previously available feature. So it's natural that a Kindle Keyboard user wouldn't be happy about it. You can keep defending for Amazon, but you can't deny the fact.

Oops, did not want to start a flame ware here :-)

I was not aware that the Kindle touch no longer has the experimental web browser that the K3 Keyboard has (I only have the K3 Keyboard).

I was assuming that the original poster meant that the experimental web browser does not work with all kinds of websites (which I do not assume it to do) but was only guaranteed for books. So while I think it is a nice feature on the K3 keyboard, I understand if there are limitations (but have not encountered any so far, other than the regional limitations).

So if the Touch is limited as opposed to the Keyboard, that would be for me a good reason not to "upgrade".

To clarify, Andy, the Touch does have a web browser, and it's actually a lot nicer to use than the K3's browser, in that you can scroll by swiping on the screen. What's changed is that you can no longer use the web browser with the 3G service, other than for Amazon's bookstore, or Wikipedia. You can still use the browser to access any site via WiFi.

I received a Kindle 3 3G Christmas 2010 and I've tried the Kobo Touch, Kindle Touch, Kindle 4 and Sony T1 since then, but I prefer the Kindle 3 over all of them. I like the page-turn buttons and the way I can handle the device while reading in bed (the keyboard area gives me more leverage with my index finger). In fact, I like it so much that I purchased a Kindle Keyboard WIFI on eBay. I fear the day when ereaders are touch only. That will be a bad day.

I'll upgrade mine when it breaks - to hopefully another Kindle with buttons (because sometimes having buttons is good). I actually don't really use the keyboard much, so I won't miss that, but I like having buttons to go back and forth for pages on at least one of my devices.

The latest wave of models didn't grab me. Amazon has a good strategy with this round of upgrades, namely working to dominate the lowest price-point to solidify their position. It just happened to also result in there not being anything from this year's model lineup that I really wanted.

I'll happily upgrade when they release something with a higher grade (better contrast) e-ink screen. I've been staring at greeney-grey long enough.

I just want another e-ink "Wow!" jump they way the K3 was superior to the K2, but instead they released the same-level screen in less-expensive models.

In the meantime I spent my pre-allocated upgrade money on a Japanese (local to me) Sony Reader (PRS-T1). It's quite educational to see how the two compare!

That's because there ARE no screens with better contrast. Amazon can only use screens that exist.

I'm not entirely sure that a screen with a better contrast is all that desirable. I've been sitting outside reading on both Kindle and Sony, after a while the white reflection off the screen is close to blinding. Better resolution? Absolutely. Better contrast? Only if I can adjust it.
