with the internet every man and his dog thinks he can write. Now if somebody is self publishing it has to mean no real publisher will invest the money in them,. So yes I will be wary. But having said that I read things I enjoy a good juicy novel a trashy rush of a book, no arty farty high brow stuff for me. So if somebody self publishing is willing to put the first chapter of their book out there as a free read I would take a look. If I liked it I would pay the same price as I would for any other book.
I do think I would tho have to kiss a lot of frogs to find that prince considering the amount of people who think they can write

If you have an e-reader first chapter(s) are free via the sampling.

Some of us choose to self-publish because we can. Publishers can't publish all the words written (good works, bad works, or other.) Some of us just like what we are doing so we keep on doing it!

Completely unfamiliar? Pretty much zero. I'd rather re-read one of my old favorites than pay for a total unknown. Or I'll check out an unknown from the library (overdrive system). On the basis of a good independent review, maybe I'd spend 99 cents. Provide some free sample chapters, not just a short intro, but at least 15 to 20% of the book and if I like it I could see spending $4 or so. For a second book from an author I've read, maybe up to $8, but I'd be happier spending $6.
