I posted the User Agent for the 3.1 update above.

Just to emphasise, the bit I'm looking for is the bit in bold:

Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; en-US) AppleWebKit/528.5+ (KHTML, like Gecko, Safari/528.5+) Version/4.0 Kindle/3.0 (screen 600x800; rotate)
Hi. I can confirm the browser number on my 3.3 is the same at 528.5+.

Hope that helps?

Spoiler:

Tee hee

But the man in the shop said it was a genuine Buck Rogers pin!!!!

Actually, the avatar refers more to a personal description of myself rather than any particular loyalty to any bygone spacer hero!

I liked that badge until somebody spoilt it my mentioning Princess Leia

Just a question: do someone have the update file? I suppose it stills wandering around the filesystem of the people who received it.

I'm not sure if these automatic updates are copied to the userstore prior to installation. Perhaps it was deleted, but the userstore partition is a FAT32, so it's easy to recover it gets overwritten.

Yep, it does.

The web browser has probably not seen any changes since the 3.1 update in that case - not even behind the scenes, minor changes.

Keep in mind that the version string is potentially meaningless. For all we know, they could have backported a truckload of changes without touching the useragent.

(One way to be sure is to check the source packages once they're out, webkit *should* be in there, although I'm not sure under which licence they're using it, so then again, maybe not! )

The firmware upgrade on the KSO's is to allow display of local.amazon.com ads. You only get them if you are in an area where Amazon has rolled out this service (and the first market that will get ads will be NYC). From what Amazon announced, you still sign up for the deal, but get something on the Kindle (a personal doc, perhaps?) that you then display at a store for a discount or special deal.

Seattle is also getting the local ads. I have an offer for a half price ticket to a Boyz II Men concert; which, btw, I'm definitely ignoring.

No news today at the conference on any firmware updates to existing Kindle owners. Would be nice to have some of that new stuff added like the x-ray feature they were talking about.

The X-Ray feature isn't even available in the "new Kindle", so I don't see it coming to the Kindle Keyboard.

It'll only work with the new Kindle, but it's possible that someone could hack it to work on the Kindle Keyboard (like 3.x on the Kindle 2/DX)

Yeah I saw that..it's stupid cause it's purely a software thing. They could add it to all their Kindles.

Reading the user guide for the "new Kindle" ($79 non-touch) everything sounds identical to the 3.1 firmware, so they don't seem to have added any new user facing software tweaks in 4.0.1 anyway.

I'm getting the local ads via email here in the Dallas/Fort Worth metro area. None of them have been worth using and I hope they don't start popping up on my KSO.
