Thanks Terisa.
So I gave it a go! From sleep mode I plugged it in to my Win7 laptop. I used ADE to transfer an Instapaper epub, closed ADE, did a safe disconnect, then unplugged the Kobo. The Kobo first went into Processing Content mode, then gave the Factory reset error. I selected Cancel, and I was back at the home screen. I can read the new epub and the previous book I am reading. Fine so far.

Glad it has worked. I hope the error disappears soon

If/when Kobo issues an update to correct this problem, how will we know it's there? Is it just a case of doing a Factory Reset and see if we get the new version?

I have looked at the Kobo site but can't see anywhere that tells me the latest update available. (I have found the update version currently on my KT.)

From previous upgrades, either when you launch Kobo Desktop and attach the Kobo or when the Kobo Touch connects via wireless, if there is a new version available you will be informed.

Of course, you could also just check here! Rest assured as soon as there IS a new firmware releases, there will be tons of posts!

I've had my KT for almost 3 months now (since the day after release), and the only time I've seen a Storage Error was the first day's experimenting when I tried plugging in a micro-SD card from my camera with about 300 jpeg images on it and then had to unplug it after the unit was frozen on processing content for more than 30 minutes. I did a Factory Reset after that.

Since then I've read for hundreds of hours, bought books from the Kobo store via Kobo Desktop, downloaded free books from the Kobo store over wireless, sideloaded books from Calibre both via USB and via its network server over wireless, downloaded DRM epub library books via ADE, experimented with text files, pdf docs, and image files, deleted books on the unit and via Calibre. I haven't used the Favorites list except to try it once by adding a couple of books. I have used the web browser, but I think the only books I've downloaded via the web browser were from my Calibre network server. I experimented with Sketch, but don't use it. I checked out the Sudoku game, but I don't play it.

I didn't try any fancy content management or deleting with Calibre until their KT support was stable (about version 0.8.12 I think). I haven't tried deleting the 2 built-in books. I always eject before disconnecting, but I eject with both Windows and Calibre interchangeably. One thing I have never done is connect to a Windows 7 computer (always WinXP).

It's weird... I han't had the error at all yet. All my books are side loaded but I only have about 5 books on it at one time. I load all my books with Calibre.

And yet another storage error and factory reset less than an hour ago. How fun. Seriously, are other brands' ereaders this prone to disaster? At this point, I will *NOT* be buying a Kobo ever again...

Curious. Those getting the error, have any of you thought of returning/exchanging your Kobo's? Be interesting to see if you'd get the same error with a different device. Really curious what the variable is for those of us not getting the error (vs. those who are).

Considered it, but I've lost the reciept and it's definitely beyond the return period, anyways.

Kobo knows by serial number when your Kobo Reader first registered, credit card number, receipt is not really needed for Kobo warranty. Stores can find sales date from credit card number used for purchase.

I'm just doing another factory reset right now...AGAIN...

First my Dictionary was all screwed up (definition showed raw text mixed up with html code), so I decided to power off and power on the unit and voila...Dictionary showed up fine, but now it keeps telling me I have a storage error. I can cancel the factory reset, but some of my Kobo Books disappeared and my updates freeze.
So I have to reset it again and do everything all over again.
The last time I had problems I had to factory reset 3 times in a row.
Of course no 1.9.10 update for me yet, but who knows if that fixes anything or just gives us more new bugs.
I'm starting to to seriously consider returning the Kobo and buying a different ereader. It is the buggiest device I have ever bought and even though I am trying to be patient, it starts to get really annoying.
Of course I can just ignore all the little glitches, but I think that I can expect a $139 device to work properly.

Hi there,

Completely understand your frustration, we have been working literally round the clock to solve the issues.

1.9.10 will fix the error for you, and we'll be completing the rollout to everyone tomorrow.
