Anyone read Lee Childs? - Page 9

Both my husband and I like Jack Reacher.

Just an FYI, Tom Cruise is set to play Jack Reacher in One Shot. When I think of Jack Reacher, Tom Cruise is the LAST person I would think of to play him.

Yes, I was rather surprised at the choice of Tom Cruise. Lee Child gave his approval, however, stating that Tom has a large personality making up for the physical largeness of Reacher. Personally I was rooting for Hugh Jackman to play the part, similar to his Wolverine roughness of character.

Barry Eisler is going to self publish.
The Reacher series started to change with more injuries of a serious nature. Reacher is also killing people a lot more.

The choice of Tom Cruise is just ridiculous. It's the worst casting since Dick Van Dyke played a cockney in Mary Poppins.

Ummm. What? I thought Dick Van Dyke was revered for that role. Not necessarily the cockney accent part (we don't know what it ought to sound like!! but we need to be able to understand it) but the humor and dancing.

Or is that what you are saying about Tom Cruise?

It's the miscasting. DvD's 'cockney' accent was just excruciating. It may have passed muster in places where nobody would know a cockney accent, but in the UK, no!

Similarly, Cruise may be accepted as Reacher by people who haven't read the books, but anybody who's read them won't be able to - surely?

Ok, I gotcha. Yeah, I'm not able to picture Cruise working as Reacher. I haven't seen any (?) of his movies, but I read about him in the rag magazines. And I don't have a Jack Reacher image of him!!

You're right - possibly not. He just seemed to have the right level of 'cragginess' for the the role.

Mind you, he's taller than Tom Cruise. He'll only work in the role if the rest of the cast are exclusively midgets.

Peter Dinklage would be better than Tom Cruise. At least he can do bad-ass.

They're going to have to hit up Peter Jackson to get some cinematography tips on how best to de-hobbitize Cruise for this role.
