Perhaps Entourage is working out a deal with a potential buyer, and there's a rigid rule about saying nothing about the process? That would explain the silence in a way that doesn't require an empty building at Entourage HQ....

If that's what's going on, then I'm surprised they wouldn't also want to silence all the speculation and discontent on the boards. How hard would it be for a potential buyer to find this? Unless everyone is just banking on the fact that when some sign of life and progress is announced, we will all be instantly subdued.

And just speaking personally, I'm not one to hold a grudge with this. If we got a spectacularly exciting (and credible) announcement today, I probably would be instantly happy. A new hardware device announcement would make me less happy for selfish reasons, but content that the company would continue to exist and probably at least support the models in existence. An announcement of a buyer would probably be exciting because you would think a new company would purchase in order to build on the technology.

But, people are feeling like jumping ship in the mean time. And if a deal isn't far along in negotiations, I would have to think that the current (pretty much exclusive) use of this forum wouldn't help matters.

I suggested the same earlier and it's certainly possible, but that would make it all the more important, I would think, to quell negative speculation.

Well said. Cosign.

I'm sure Entourage would love to subdue the discontent on this message board with a brief update. But if they're bound by some sort of non-disclosure agreement, their hands are tied. Besides, I would think that a potential buyer in this day and age would expect unrest on a message board if a company is having financial trouble. (Either that, or the potential buyer is happy to disregard it as a non-representative sampling of a active, vocal but tiny minority).

Of course, everything I'm saying is speculation... but this thread is the place for that, right?

I'd think a potential buyer would be getting a bit skittish by now given all the bad publicity coming from these forums. What must all those potential customers out there think? I could only see enTourage becoming less appealing with each passing day. The buyer may start wondering if it's such a good idea after all.

And Sarah is quite right about the reaction to information. In the past, every time a tiny morsel of a status update was given, even if not necessarily the one we wanted, has been well received by the community. Someone at enTourage has a major insecurity problem...

Well, since we're thinking through this theory for a bit...The set of circusmtances under which the reputation of enTourage wouldn't matter would include a company buying enTourage with plans to acquire assets only and use its own, perhaps more-established, brand identity slapped onto enTourage technology.

Perhaps, but (a) "all the bad publicity" is one thread with... what, two dozen participants? and (b) the bad publicity isn't "My Edge sucks!," it's "What is going on at Entourage?" Which, if both sides have agreed that everyone must stay quiet during negotiations, is a natural consequence of the silence and is not a reflection of the quality of the product(s) being purchased.

Good point. In which case, the increasing bad publicity works in the buyer's favour by giving them leverage on the price perhaps...

I, for one, welcome our new dual-book overlords.

I can't complain. I had great service when I needed it (very early on). I love my product. But a great product with neither market share nor a happy community is a liability if my machine is only as good for as long as it holds up and apps are backwards compatible. I think selling the company or assets or technology could be exciting! If so, I hope Entourage makes a ton of money for their innovation and efforts, and I hope that a new company brings marketing/development that expands the functionality/offerings. There's no reason this can't be a win-win-win.

Reptile nature is much better. We can just sit and wait. Besides, it's almost lunch time, and that's worth waiting for.

I have a ways to go before lunchtime here. I am just not convinced that it is a new company buying Entourage out. It seems to me that even with a wall of silence erected over a potential sale, they would at least hint at, or do all they can to reassure us in some way that we are not left high and dry. Remember, we are the current owners of their product and 'word of mouth' is some of the best advertising. I have a degree in Electronic Commerce and I remember that one of the things that I learned was that 'word of mouth' advertising is more important now than ever, since information disseminates much faster and to a much wider audience over the internet.

How unbearably tragic! I weep for you. And my stomach growls, too.

I agree. It wouldn't take much for one of the EntoUrAgeRs to parachute in with a brief greeting. I wouldn't be surprised if there's just nobody paying much attention to the blog here.

How did the contact-someone-by-e-mail project go?

I'm weeping too! I only got a cup of coffee and a small piece of cold pizza before I had to get going this morning..LOL

The email project is, so far, a bust. I shall keep trying though!

We're entering the Snow-Window-Of-Opportunity again (noon to about 1:30 PM EST) where Snow often is seen logged into the Forums ("Currently Active Users" on the main forum page, http://www.entourageedge.com/forums/forum.php). Let's keep our eyes open and see if Snow makes an appearance and/or statement (sort of like Ground Hog Day, lol)
