What are the possibilities of hacking it and turning it into an eInk Android 2.1 device?

Considering Scion stated she was giving up on her NC a couple weeks ago and was putting it on craigslist, she probably shouldn't criticize. But that's okay. I'm a perfectionist and I insist on things being the best they can be. Some of you apparently think anything is okay as long as it comes from a certain company. Somewhere between these two philosophies is a good place to be. I've said little more than praise for the Nook STR. But if you guys want to keep taking cheap, personal shots at me then go ahead. Just remember it is just a reader, an inanimate object. Not really worth getting personal over regardless of your opinion of it. If you want to get upset about opinions then reserve it for hot topics like religion, politics, nationality, etc.

Here I disagree. I find Amazon's recommendation engine helpful. But that is only because you can add/delete/remove/etc, along with it using your reviews...if it was just based on purchases it would be useless.

B&N as a company - AND THIS IS A SUBJECTIVE OPINION OF MINE - seems to be comprised of extremely good ideas balanced by poor execution. I like their site navigation overall, but their search engine is terrible and doesn't even recognize ISBNs! Their recommendation feature is a good plan poorly executed, since you can't tweak your likes/dislikes and - as Scion says - if you "buy" all the Free Friday books, your recommends will soon become meaningless. Their shelves idea is wonderful, but until you can set them up online and have them flow down to your multiple nooks, it's almost worthless. I like the company... just wish they'd invest in making things great instead of ok-but-half-finished. ![]() |

I think they are fun, I have it on my nook color, which doesn't do a bad job but the recommendations on my Netflix account always crack me up. I viewed the Black Swan and now every chick flix known to man is "Picked out just me" LOL LOL Like someone said before I think they are fun to see how the algorithim works with you and how accurate it is. It's more fun than anything else. |

Actually, no. My comments were based on the ugly fonts chosen by B&N.
