That is so freaking awesome.

And there goes the most popular complaint about the Kindle.

Wow, if true (is that a legit press release site?) this is nice.

Maybe I should buy some Amazon stock now....

Oh hey, we need to think ahead: What will we argue about if library books on a Kindle becomes a non issue?

Customers will be able to check out a Kindle book from their local library and start reading on any Kindle device or free Kindle app for Android, iPad, iPod touch, iPhone, PC, Mac, BlackBerry, or Windows Phone. If a Kindle book is checked out again or that book is purchased from Amazon, all of a customer's annotations and bookmarks will be preserved.
Nice that the Kindle apps aren't left out. They know how to cover all bases. Annotations and bookmarks preserved!?

Let me see, issues that others will find to complain about regarding the Kindle:

The Keyboard
The lack of a touchscreen
The lack of a replaceable battery
The fact that Amazon waited so long to get into the libraries (I just saw this one)
The lack of book covers
Being locked into Amazons store (We know that is not the case but you know that it is going to be brought up again)

I am sure others can add to the list. (winks)

It's too light. I like the feel of something substantial in my hand. The Kindle is almost toy-like.

You forgot the number one complaint. No ePUB support.

Oh and the one that seem to have died down in the wake of the iPads popularity: The lack of microSD/SD card.

And the one that perplexes me most of all: "I don't want WI-FI/3G". ...

I have never understood that one, don't use it if you don't want to. (shrugs)

I suppose for some people it is an invitation to do something other then read or be a bit less impulsive in their shopping. It depends on how well you know yourself.

Valid point SCION, but also a very subjective I think.

Studies say that for tablets and ereaders, weight is one of the most important features during the purchase decision. Thinner and lighter, that's what people are looking for and that's exactly what companies are trying to do. Not denying what you're saying, but holding a Kindle for several hours while you read a long novel is something most people like about the device itself.

Now, would be interesting to know what's the reaching point, I mean, what's too thing and what's too light for a tablet or ereader. Because at some point and technology will be so advanced that manufacturing such devices won't be a problem.

The ePub's complaint was related to Public Libraries and lending. After today's news, that is not is a valid argument anymore.

For "normal" users differences between ePUb and MOBI are zero (besides public libraries and lending, of course). The novel reads exactly the same on any of the popular devices: Nook or Kindle. Minor differences in layout and available fonts, especially on complex books with graphics and tables, can be noticed (there is a thread here about it) but really small differences and won't traduce on bad formatting or a book that is more difficult to read.

Actually I found the biggest reason for loving ePub is not so much library lending (though very compelling) but the ability to shop anywhere and take advantages of deals, promotions and such. Anyone who buys from Kobo know exactly what I'm talking about.

you save so much money by having ePub and the ability to shop anywhere you want.

I was being facetious. Just adding to the list of complaints about the Kindle. Thanks for the Karma though.

So can I. It is easy to do. Although most of the authors I enjoy reading are in the Big 6 so I can't really take advantage of the discounts at Kobo.

Love ya man!
