Lots of people like to make fun of haggis. I think that it's a bit of reverse psychology, They want to discourage others eating too much of it so that there'll be more left for them.

Sorry, KK, but you don't fool me.

Are you talking about this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slivovitz
There are many, MANY kinds.
- From really wile tasting and smelling homemade (moonshine) horrors, (often up to 80% alcohol, so it burns your throat, unless you know how to drink it)
- through generic, commercial, bought at any supermarket in countless variants - made from food grade alcohol, plus some plum flavorings, some sugar and, perhaps a bit of genuine fermented plum destilate
- to really nice, well aged stuff professionally made from actual fermented plums
- to absolutely exquisite alcohol drink made lovingly at home with great, great care and LOTS of expertise.

I generally do not like alcohol. I am not an active, militant teatotaller, but I usually refuse anything with alcohol in it. But, once I won a small bottle of Slivovitz (Czech made, from real fruit, well aged) and THAT one tastes really great. Smells even better.

I travel to Slovakia occasionally with work and every time I'm there I'm 'forced' to have a glass or two of slivovitz. Last time, I had some home made (by a Slovakian colleague's grandfather)) - it was very good.

It's not something I'd want to drink a lot of, but as an occasional drink, I like it.

in the health food section of my local market there is a machine where you can freshly grind your own peanut butter. the urge to stand there with a baguette in hand is sometimes overwhelming!

Let's set the record straight:

The wild Haggis (plural: Haggi) lives in the highlands of Scotland. It is round, four-legged, fur-covered, and usually less than a foot in length (comparable in size to a grouse). It is a shy creature, rarely seen, and for this reason there is great disagreement about its exact morphology and habits. For instance, many who claim to be Haggis experts say that the legs of the Haggis are longer on one side of its body than the other, in order to allow it to better stand on the steep slopes of the highlands. As a consequence, the haggis can only run around hills in one direction, and to catch one you simply run around the hill in the opposite direction. If true, this morphological feature would make the Haggis a cousin of the American Sidehill Gouger. However, other Haggis observers deny this to be true, insisting that all the legs of the Haggis are of equal length.

Some Haggis-ologists speculate that the Haggis is related to the Australian duck-billed platypus, being a descendant of migratory platypuses who found themselves trapped in Scotland during the last ice age and evolved to become highly adapted to its cold, damp weather.

To catch a Haggis it is advised to disguise your scent with liberal amounts of whisky, and then adopt a stumbling gait, swerving from side to side, so that the animal won't see you coming. Many stores in Scotland also sell Haggis Whistles. It is claimed that "in skilled hands this whistle can perfectly mimic the mating call of the Haggis."

It is sometimes said that Haggis is actually a traditional Scottish dish made from the heart, liver, and lungs of a sheep, mixed with oatmeal, suet, and seasonings, and boiled in the stomach of the animal. This is simply not true.

MJK2111, the Haggis sounds a lot like the Canadian Snow Snake, very hard to catch without the liberal use of whiskey, the only difference is you need Canadian Rye Whiskey.

Many a night I chased the elusive Snow Snake!

In Bavaria we have a rare beast called Wolpertinger.

Sounds also very familiar

In World of Warcraft they have these as a pet. But you can only see them if your character is totally drunk at the Brewfest

Peanut Butter Hershey.

I want it known that, although I chewed, I did not swallow.

Actually, I find hummus to taste very similar to peanut butter but a bit smoother. So I'm curious if there are others that agree/disagree and if peanut butter haters like hummus? I happen to love them both.

I disagree. I like humous/hummus. However I dislike (or assume I would as I've never tried it) humus as that comes from the bottom of our compost heap.

However, it is possibly debatable as to whether or not what was in the Peanut Butter Hershey was actually Peanut butter. I've never tried peanut butter, and on the basis of the Hershey, I'm unlikely to. I'd rather have the peanuts. Actually, I'd rather have cashews. And if anyone has make "cashew butter", can they please keep it to themselves.
