Well, if the government would give us decent trains to ride on, I'd use 'em! The biggest reason we have this airport security issue is that Americans opted to fly, and the government let them, not giving them any viable alternatives (like trains).

the government didn't give us the air travel system, just the guidelines. also the government is not involved with the current rail system (except forthrowing a bunch of money at AMTRAK awhile back), I don't know why you put the onus on them. both freight and passenger are privatized

The government could have stepped in and taken over AMTRAK longer-term, developing it into a world-class system nationwide. It might not have been the most short-term economical thing to do at the time, but it was the most long-term economical thing to do, and the most logical. But with airlines already flying, and the public willing to fly 'em, they didn't see the need, didn't want to spend the money, and let it go. One of government's jobs is to do the things the people need, but won't do for themselves. I'm not saying the government is solely, directly responsible for the U.S. having no good train system. But they should have put forth much more effort to make sure we'd have one. |

It isn't a right to go into Walmart, it is a privilege. They should be allowed to grope us along with the receipt check procedure that they do. If we don't like it then we can shop somewhere else.

Now, now, Betty, groping is a (dirty old) man's job... even in our enlightened age.

And we're talking same-sex gropers so isn't there a reason for the religious right to get up in arms about this.

back to the airport bit... I simply cannot get upset about it (unless it is proven that the rads are harmful). going through these scanners are a hell of a lot faster than the metal detectors or the pat downs. they also now know if it is an underwire of a bra, vs. the wire of a bomb. I heard on a news report yesterday that they are considering replacing the software to portray a cartoonish figure of the human and it would just highlight a questionable area that showed up. the images I have seen really are not all that graphic to begin with.
I draw the line at body cavity searches. |

I think a lot of these so called plots have been conceived by the security services to demonise a whole section of the community for their so called war on terror . People have sleepwalked into loosing a lot of their liberties due to this so called war on terror . In Uk the Ricin plot turned out to be fake and many other plots.
I do not feel comfortable at all at the idea of walking through these scanners nor am I happy to be intimately groped in Public . I dont mind a pat down . For me modesty is an important part of my life . Last edited by sunnysmiles; 11-19-2010 at 12:19 PM. |
