I can't get any of the "comeback" codes in the front page to work. All those 25% to 35%. Perhaps they've expired? I haven't used them before.

Canada Day Sale good through July 6th in Canada (some titles may also be discounted in other regions), with a lot of books reasonably deep-discounted from their regular prices, and many of them couponable. Lots of Canadiana, such as stuff from Rick Mercer, Mordecai Richler, Douglas Coupland (not his best work, IMHO, that novel is the one with a really disappointing WTF ending, IIRC), Alice Munro, Margaret Atwood, Guy Gavriel Kay, etc. Most books are in the $2.99 to $4.99 range (usually $4.99 for the good stuff).
  • Index page for those in Canada (or successfully pretending to be)
  • Save Up to 70% on Canadian bestsellers (I like how this page has a very prominent selection of obvious Harlequin titles, which I suppose by sheer sales volume alone would make them the topselling Canadian-publisher titles, even though they're now owned by HarperCollins)
  • Save up to 70% on Fiction Bestsellers
  • blah blah Mystery Bestsellers (some are discounted sequels to previous Dundurn & ECW freebies, should you have happened to have enjoyed those)
  • yadda yadda Romance Bestsellers (a little underpopulated compared to the other categories, but a bunch of 99 cent Harlequins (still couponable in Canada, IIRC))
  • ibid Kids & Teens Bestsellers (a whole bunch of Canadiana in this one, but a disappointing lack of Gordon Korman)
  • etc. etc. Non-Fiction Bestsellers (some really-promising-looking science and culture books in this, plus a whole bunch of history and regional interest and national politics, and Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield's memoir, and the obligatory bunch of hockey stuff; most of these are from couponable imprints)

Some very nice titles in this lot, which I'll be raiding once I build up a sufficient stash of decent coupons.

A few titles seem to have not yet finished dropping in price yet, so caveat emptor and all that.

The contest is running extremely fast this morning, instant responses. I've never seen the contest run so quickly and smoothly before.

I am so frustrated right now.

One good thing -
- I was able to play all three contests last night

Two bad things -
- My sole 55% coupon wouldn't work. It is mine, not shared w/anyone. I was buying a book in US kobo site, the coupon was from UK contest. Just for fun, I logged into my UK account and used the coupon - et voila! I was able to buy the book. Hey, I figured this out. Go me.

- Then I try to use few 35% coupons I won. These coupons are from all three regions (US, UK, CA), and it doesn't matter which site I am logged into to buy.

(Yes, all the titles I am trying to buy are eligible for discount.)

Why kobo, why??!!

I received an email with the actual code. It didn't show up in my account like the previous ones did. However, the code is only accepted with the account associated with the email.

They are probably doing it as a part of wider changes. I know when they have some sales sponsored by authors, the sales are now often regional--so when the sale is happening in Australia, for example, the codes/books are not on sale in other regions. The books may appear on sale in all regions EVENTUALLY, but not all at the same time. The codes only work on the weekends for a particular region.

Kobo has already cut back on countries where the coupons work. Perhaps they have decided that they will only allow coupons won in the UK to be used there and so on.

I thought that was the case - that perhaps kobo has restricted things such that you can only use a coupon won in the Canadian contest with a Canadian account, etc. Except I've just tried using a coupon following this, and keep getting declined.

I thought that perhaps I could only use one coupon per login session, but that doesn't seem to work either.

Well, they may be TRYING to implement changes somewhere along the lines of our suspicions. That doesn't mean they have managed to implement it that way...and it could just be a random bug. They seem to have an algo for "insert random result" that gets called a lot.

Kog, We have the same problem. I posted about this last night to ask who else have the same problem. I was using Kobo USA store. I can't use my 55% and 45% but my 35% was working.

I got a five dollar credit probably a month, maybe 6 weeks ago. They sent me an email saying it would be there. There was no way for me to tell it was there, but when I bought a book and had it in the cart, it said I owed zero. I bought a different book (more expensive) with the 5 dollar credit as a result. If I recall correctly, it took at least a day AFTER the email to go to zero with a book in the cart. I was well-pleased. Thrilled in fact. I bought a Baen book and was able to use a coupon with it to get it under the 5 dollars. I know there are a lot of complaints on this thread because your mileage may vary with coupons and whatnot, but now and then, they do something really nice like that. I realize it is a marketing strategy and not all their strategies work in our favor, but they do try. They work pretty hard with authors too, from what I've seen.
