Thought I was the polar bear in the family. Went for a walk but cut it short because of cold air and wet streets. It's 31° currently with a wind chill of 26° and there are puddles everywhere. Norton didn't care. No shoes and just a thin jacket of fur was all he needed; the weather didn't bother him at all. He was ready to go the distance but I wimped out, put a leash on him, and led him back home.

Getting to be downright pleasant outside. -15C, -24C windchill. 10 degrees warmer than this morning. Supposed to be about this temperature until Wednesday when we'll get a little more of a bump in the warmer direction.

We've been lucky this year. Days with a maximum temperature below:

-30C -> 0 days
-25C -> 0 days
-20C -> 2 days
-15C -> 4 days
-10C -> 14 days

It's warmed up a bit since I woke up. My wife told me the wind chill factor was 4° F when she left for work about 6:30. It's now around 9°. The actual temperature is a balmy 16° F. Yes, I know that's no big deal to you folks in the higher latitudes, but here that's c-c-c-cold.

We're due to get walloped by snow on Friday night and all of Saturday. Potential amounts vary from 4 inches to more than 2 feet, depending on who you listen to. I've got my fingers crossed -- I'm scheduled to make a round trip to New England on Sunday.

Today wasn't too bad -- high temps were just above freezing and the sky was overcast, but it wasn't windy.

Our forecast: freezing rain => snow => rain => snow => wintry mix ... starting Thursday night through Saturday ....

NC's preparation: stay home until it melts, or your boss threatens to fire you.

My preparation: charge all electronic devices, find car charger for said devices, take (possibly) last hot shower for 2-3 days, empty out Coleman cooler for stuff in frig if power fails ....
