The story started interesting but really didn't go anywhere. Another "thriller" that didn't really thrill me.

I really ready for a gripping read that I won't want to put down, and will feel sad when it's over... but happy to find there is a Sequel or next story in the series that is even better.

Bob have you come across the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear?

Maisie is a PI and psychologist in 1930's London. Most enjoyable series - well written and sufficiently complex to immerse oneself.

I finished up Pervasive Information Architecture by by Andrea Resmini. A wonderful read in the subject area.

Now it's off to R. K. Narayan's The Guide.

Just started reading Empress, by Karen Miller. If the wonderfully divided opinions regarding the book are anything to go by, it'll be quite an interesting experience.

Not what I thought I would read after finishing Tigana, but... to hell with lists

I'm glad I picked it up. Usually I can tell by the first chapters if I'm going to like a book or not. I like it , the story is interesting and I'm definitely keen on continuing. Currently at 17%.

I'll finish it today and see the film of that play tomorrow night with my wife. We'll be seeing the original cast version—the film showing the play with reverse casting is Thursday night, but I can't see watching it twice just to see the actors playing Frankenstein and the monster reverse roles, although it could be interesting. Maybe if it ever returns I'll be ready for it.

You are in for a real treat. Enjoy!

I am reading something that I picked up on a whim and really isn't the sort of thing that I usually read. I am pleased to find that I am really enjoying it. It is a YA novel called "The List" about a bunch of high school girls and their experiences after being rated most beautiful or most ugly girl of their class. I should be done tonight.

I am also reading "The House of Storms" by Ian MacLeod. He is a fantastic writer, I'm really surprised that he has not received more recognition. I warmly recommend his Light Ages series (of two books). I will definitely be reading more of his books.

Next on my TBR list is Tea Obreht's "The Tiger's Wife". It is set in a imaginary and unspecified part of the Balkans, which is coincidentally the same sort of setting that I have written for the novel that I am working on. I'm really curious to see how the setting is handled in her book. I am really excited to read it. I hope that I haven't set my expectations too high.

I have two copies of the first book on my bookshelf. Thought it was great. However, I never got around to reading the second book.

I finished Symphony of Blood by independent author Adam Pepper for my review site. Not bad.

I'm now reading The Eternal Husband by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. This was one of his lesser known works and quite a bit smaller at about 170 pages. Less than a third through and I'm finding it easy to read, but it's still a set up phase at the moment and I'm waiting for it to develop a bit further.

Maybe because the books are terrible? I just read the first in the series, The Calling, and it was more implausible than little green men. The characters weren't believable at all. Police officers ignoring regulations to get the job done is standard mystery fare, but in this one every single officer crossed every line imaginable: removing evidence from crime scenes, illegal searches, not reporting a body, using a child as bait, acting outside their jurisdiction, working while suspended, missing a court date, leaking to the press, etc. Two of them had been with the department a whole day when they did these things, so there was no reason for them to behave that way.

I just finished reading Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus by Mary Shelley. I thought I had read this story years ago, as I was familiar with its basic outline, but I don't recall the depth of the two central characters in her story. I must have heard an radio adaptation, or read the Classics Illustrated version, but had I read this, I would not have forgotten it. This is a marvelous exploration of human psychology.

Frankenstein did create a monster, but not in his laboratory. He created a monster when he turned his back upon his creation. The creature was the ultimate abandoned child, judged by all humanity solely upon his ghastly appearance. He could have been a poet and a benefactor to humanity, but the abuse he suffered at the hands of all he encountered sealed his fate.
