Duplicate. The "keeper" is the one immediately below. I'll blame the duplicate on using a smartphone (you don't think that I'm going to blame it on _myself_, do you?!

![]() Substituting .com for .ca gives your southern neighbors the same deal ($1.30)--https://www.amazon.com/Roman-Empire-Indian-Ocean-Kingdoms-ebook/dp/B00OZ3HWM2?tag=mr022-20. I didn't check GoodReads, but the ratings at Amazon are super! Thanks for posting--because of that, we can take advantage of this great deal! Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 01-02-2019 at 11:39 PM. |

Of course, when we think of cartoons made in, and about, WWII. we think of the ones of Biill Mauldin--even if you didn't know his name, you almost certainly would recognize his iconic style. I had no idea that Seuss ever did war cartoons! If I don't buy the book, I'm certainly going to see all of the previews that I can get my eyeballs on! Once again, kudos to you bfisher! At amazon.ca foe $CDN 3.99
Prairie Fires: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder by Caroline Fraser: https://www.amazon.ca/Prairie-Fires-.../dp/B0727NC3NN The Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/...-prairie-fires The Amazon blurb: "WINNER OF THE PULITZER PRIZE WINNER OF THE NATIONAL BOOK CRITICS CIRCLE AWARD ONE OF THE NEW YORK TIMES BOOK REVIEW'S 10 BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR The first comprehensive historical biography of Laura Ingalls Wilder, the beloved author of the Little House on the Prairie books Millions of readers of Little House on the Prairie believe they know Laura Ingalls—the pioneer girl who survived blizzards and near-starvation on the Great Plains, and the woman who wrote the famous autobiographical books. But the true saga of her life has never been fully told. Now, drawing on unpublished manuscripts, letters, diaries, and land and financial records, Caroline Fraser—the editor of the Library of America edition of the Little House series—masterfully fills in the gaps in Wilder’s biography. Revealing the grown-up story behind the most influential childhood epic of pioneer life, she also chronicles Wilder's tumultuous relationship with her journalist daughter, Rose Wilder Lane, setting the record straight regarding charges of ghostwriting that have swirled around the books. The Little House books, for all the hardships they describe, are paeans to the pioneer spirit, portraying it as triumphant against all odds. But Wilder’s real life was harder and grittier than that, a story of relentless struggle, rootlessness, and poverty. It was only in her sixties, after losing nearly everything in the Great Depression, that she turned to children’s books, recasting her hardscrabble childhood as a celebratory vision of homesteading—and achieving fame and fortune in the process, in one of the most astonishing rags-to-riches episodes in American letters. Spanning nearly a century of epochal change, from the Indian Wars to the Dust Bowl, Wilder’s dramatic life provides a unique perspective on American history and our national mythology of self-reliance. With fresh insights and new discoveries, Prairie Fires reveals the complex woman whose classic stories grip us to this day." |

It's been 3 years or more since I mentioned the free books available from The Getty Museum.
Since that time, The Getty has, no doubt, added numerous free books to the collection that it offers. Of even less doubt, in my mind, is that there have come along new MobileReaders, since then, who do not know about this outstanding repository of free resources. The Getty's publications are of outstanding quality. Many, if not all, of the publications can be freely downloaded. Many, if not most, are in PDF. (Note that the free titles may all be backlist titles, for what it's worth). I recommend two webpages of The Getty where you can find a wealth of material, to get you started: - If you just want to browse the free Getty Publications, you might wish to go here. - If you want to search for specific items, I recommend that you go to the Getty Research Portal. Searches there are capable of returning items not only from The Getty, but also from a host of other museums and such like. (I do know if all of these institutions offer free downloads of items). Now go on a feeding frenzy for some awesome free ebooks and other awesome free resources! Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 01-06-2019 at 10:16 PM. |
