Hello,
Does this plugin write debug info to a log file? If so, where is the log file located on Windows? When I switch on the Calibre debug info, it doesn't seem to write anything to the directory I select. I am trying to troubleshoot an error : calibre, version 6.12.0 ERROR: KFX conversion failed: Cannot convert <book name> KeyError('$174') |

To see the log after a failed conversion click on the "Jobs" button on the bottom right of the calibre window and then double click the line for the most recent conversion (the top one) in the dialog box that pops up. You can post the log here if you want me to look at it. |

I will update the KFX Input plugin so that it is able to continue conversion when that case occurs. Even with that change it will be necessary to choose the option in the KFX Input tab of conversion options to "Allow conversion to complete even if errors are detected" in order for conversion to be successful. I expect the new plugin release to be ready sometime next week. |

Jhowell,
Thank you very much for the quick and detailed help. The book was created in Kindle Create (one version off from the current revision) so it might well be a bug in that. Will look forward to the plugin update. Thanks again. |

Version 1.66.0 - 06 Feb 2023
Remove display:none style which is sometimes applied to <title> elements by calibre which causes conversion by the Kindle Previewer to fail. Fix missing "src" attribute in "img" elements which causes conversion by the Kindle Previewer to fail. Detect Kindle Previewer versions up to 3.71. |

Still stuck at 67% during conversion
I updated both the plugin and the Calibre program a couple of hours ago, and I still get stuck at 67% during book conversion. The Kindle Previewer version I use is the 3.70.1 one, my Calibre is the 6.12 and I updated the plugin today, but I always get this when I click to see what's happening:
Spoiler:
I'm not really a techie person and I understand next to nothing about this, but can you help? Thanks in advance! Last edited by theducks; 02-06-2023 at 08:27 PM. Reason: spoilered log |

If that succeeds then there is likely something about the book you are trying to convert that is causing the Kindle Previewer to fail. See the section "Dealing with Conversion Errors" in the first post of this thread for some tips on how to deal with that. If you are unable to make progress and need further help then you can post a copy of the failing book and I can try to see whether I can duplicate the problem and find the cause. Note that copyrighted books must not be posted here on MobileRead. If the book is under copyright then you can use the ScrambleEbook plugin to remove the text before posting here. See the last paragraph of "Dealing with Conversion Errors" for more information. |

Trying again
I tried doing as you said: with the Frankenstein book, reading the Dealing with Conversion Errors section, and I'm trying it right now with the Frankenstein book and another book I downloaded externally. It's been like five minutes and it's still stuck at 67%. I don't get any specific error message or anything saying that the conversion failed, but I find it strange that it's still stuck on the same percentage. It even asked me to download Kindle Previewer again and update the plugin.
Prior to the update, I noticed the same happening to any books I tried converting. No error messages, but being stuck at 67%. There was a book showing more than 24 hours and was still stuck at 67%. I tried converting from epub at first, then converting from mobi, and the conversion is still at 67% and not showing any signs of errors. Not sure what's happening. It used to work before and it was pretty fast to convert, and then it started getting stuck at 67% and whenever I try a different book, the conversion happens and decides to "stop" at 67% and takes a long time to show any signs of life lol |

One thing to try is to uninstall that program from your system, reboot, and install it again. If that does not help you can try using the Kindle Previewer GUI. Launch the program, use it to open a copy of the Frankenstein book and see if it opens correctly there. If successful the book will be shown in the Previewer and on the left there will be a green checkmark next to "Enhanced Typesetting". If not see what errors occur, if any. |

I uninstalled and rebooted my system, installed it again, and opened the Frankenstein book. I don't have any problems opening books in it; most of them show the Enhanced Typesetting checkmark since I usually open them in it to check the formatting and other possible errors with the file.
I'm trying to convert the Frankenstein book from epub to kfx and it worked, and now I'm going to try on two different books I downloaded (and it worked again!). So does this have anything to do with the source I download the books (since they're not from Amazon), or does it have to do with the file itself? |

If you want to pursue that see my previous comments about using the ScrambleEbook plugin to make a file that you can post here. |

Ok, I'll keep my eye open for that! It seems to be working (tried with other three different books), and I'll check the ScrambleEbook plugin.
Thanks again!! |

I have both the KFX input & KFX output installed in Calibre but when I try to convert from KFX-ZIP to epub it says it can't convert because its locked by DRM.

Removal of KFX DRM is only possible in a few limited situations. See the DRM Concerns section of the first post in the thread for the KFX Input plugin for more information. Also detailed assistance with DRM removal is not allowed here on MobileRead. |
